12th International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions (SAHC)
Scope
25th anniversary edition

During the last decades the study and conservation of historical structures has attained high technological and scientific standards. Today’s practice involves the combination of innovative non-destructive inspection technologies, sophisticated monitoring systems and advanced numerical models for structural analysis. More than ever, it is understood that the studies must be performed by interdisciplinary teams integrating wide expertise (engineering, architecture, history, archeology, geophysics, chemistry…). Moreover, the holistic nature of the studies, and the need to encompass and combine the different scales of the problem –the materials, the structures, the building aggregates, and the territory – arenow increasingly acknowledged. Due to all this, the study of historical structures is still facing very strong challenges that can only be addressed through sound international scientific cooperation.

The SAHC International Conference on Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions has been created as an international, multidisciplinary forum allowing networking and exchange of knowledge on the aforementioned subjects. The last edition of the conference (SAHC2021), celebrated on September 29-30 and October 1, 2021, included the following topics: (1)history of construction and building technology; (2)inspection methods, non-destructive techniques and laboratory testing; (3) numerical modeling and structural analysis; (4) structural health monitoring; (5) repair and strengthening strategies and techniques; (6)conservation of 20th c. architectural heritage; (7) seismic analysis and retrofit; (8) vulnerability and risk analysis; and (9) interdisciplinary projects and case studies.

This collection includes all the papers presented at SAHC 2021.

Scope
The scope of this publication covers engineering systems that provide support and help in the design of civil infrastructure, and to the natural disasters and accidents caused by human which may affect the infrastructure. The journal emphasizes contributions which address one or more of the areas identified in the title. The term infrastructure refers here to the physical facilities which allow moving or storing products, raw materials, water, solid waste, energy, information or people. This includes bridges, ports, canals, airports, railroads, systems of urban traffic, roads, lifelines, energy transportation, pipelines, dams, water treatment plants, tanks, silos, and others. Emphasis on natural disaster is placed on hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, floods, drafts, fire, landslides, and others. The journal also deals with man-made accidents, such as design or construction errors, explosions, impacts with vehicles, and others.

El alcance de esta publicación comprende los sistemas de ingeniería que dan apoyo y sirven para el diseño de la infraestructura civil, y a los desastres naturales y accidentes de origen humano que pueden afectar esa infraestructura. La revista publica contribuciones que se refieran a la conjunción de más de una de las áreas temáticas definidas en el título, o a una de ellas. El término infraestructura civil se usa aquí para designar al conjunto de instalaciones físicas que permiten movilizar o almacenar bienes, materias primas, agua, residuos, energía, información o personas. En general, se incluyen aquí puentes, puertos, canales, aeropuertos, ferrocarriles, sistemas de tránsito urbano, carreteras, líneas de comunicación y energía, tuberías, represas, plantas de tratamiento de aguas, tanques, silos, etc. El énfasis en desastres naturales está en el estudio de acciones de huracanes, tornados, terremotos, inundaciones, sequías, fuego, deslizamientos, y otros. Asimismo la revista publica temas relacionados con accidentes y eventos producidos por causas humanas, incluyendo fallas por diseño o construcción, colisiones con vehículos, explosiones, entre otras.

Journal of Validation of Computational Models
Scope
The Journal of Validation of Computational Models aims to be a vehicle to disseminate experiments and illustrative analytical solutions that can be used for validation and verification of computational models in all areas of engineering and applied science.

The journal welcomes contributions that present high-quality experiments with particular attention to the reproducibility of the results. The papers must have a detailed and complete description of the experimental set-up and should include dispersion or uncertainty assessment information. They should also be completed with the datasets of the presented results in standard editable format.

Papers that focus on validation must involve assessment of computational models through comparison to experiments and should be accompanied by relevant measures of uncertainty from both sources. These papers should also include code verification, i.e. the assurance that code outputs converge to analytical solutions, particularly in terms of the rate of reduction of discretization errors.

Presentations to the Open Workshop PADRI2017 - Platform for Aircraft Drag Reduction Innovation

About PADRI-2017

The main objective of the Open Workshop PADRI2017 (http://congress.cimne.com/padri-2017/frontal/default.asp) is to find candidate flow control technologies and optimization strategies that can minimize shock wave and interference drag in the strut-wing junction region in cruise condition.

The ECCOMAS Industry Interest Group (IIG) is actively promoting the ECCOMAS Advanced Workshop PADRI.
The high level objective of this workshop is to strengthen the ECCOMAS industrial group and to develop contact between ECCOMAS and the DGs of the European Commission.

PADRI2017 proposes a test case reproducing, even at low velocity, a typical shock wave pattern in the region of the junction strut-wing of an aircraft. In order to simplify the problem, some constraints have been setup, so that the geometrical modifications should be confined to a defined small region around the strut-wing junction, and the objective function is clearly explained in order to ensure computational data results comparisons across all the technology solutions and participants.
A computational platform will allow all participants to compare on outputs and formats selected by organizers their respective data results installed on a Database with respect to the reference (baseline) and to show the benefit of the chosen flow control technology.

The workshop intends to contribute to fill the gap between the different technology models and their application.

Technical Description of the Test Case

Strut wing test case is based on an unformatted geometry of an aircraft with upper wing, which is supported by a strut. The geometry includes the entire aircraft with tail and empennage, but simplifications can be applied if necessary, discarding the empennage and tail, or considering symmetry.
The flow conditions are summarized as: Mach 0.72, angle of attack 1º, Reynolds number over length 7.1x106 m-1, cruise altitude 30000ft on an atmosphere ISA+0 with pressure 30089.59 Pa, and temperature 228.71K.

Reynolds/length= 7.1.106m1

Altitude= 30000 ft

Atmosphere= ISA+0

Pressure= 30089.59 Pa

Temperature= 228.71 K

The main focus should be put on the region of the strut-wing junction in the mentioned cruise conditions, analyzing the shock wave and the interference drag in this particular region.
The definition of the best flow control device, which helps to diminish the shock and the drag, is the main objective and should be demonstrated through the analysis of the simulation results.

Numerical Analysis of Axisymmetric Solids by the Finite Element Method Use in Concrete, Steel and Mixed Steel-Concrete Elements
Scope
The objective of the this paper is to present the numerical results of the computational implementation of a mathematical formulation based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) for the analysis of axisymmetric structures subjected to axisymmetric loads with materials in linear elastic regime. Fortran 90/95 (1) programming language was used to implement this formulation which allows obtaining stress, strain and displacement values along the axisymmetric structure. The implementations performed were checked by comparing the responses of the implemented computer program with results in the literature and/ or modelings carried out with the aid of ANSYS 17 software.

Numerical investigation of perforated steel plate shear walls exposed to high temperature
Scope
To our knowledge, till now, the seismic performance of perforated steel plate shear walls under fire condition has not been evaluated and compared at different temperatures. In this paper, the perforated steel plate shear wall with infill plates with a thickness of 2.67, 5 and 7 mm and also with yield stresses of 165, 256 and 300 is modelled and their seismic performance in terms of stiffness, ultimate strength and ductility, before and after applying the load is compared under fire condition fire at temperatures of 458, 642 and 917 °C.

The objectives of Structural Membranes 2021 are to collect and disseminate state-of-the-art research and technology for design, analysis, construction and maintenance of textile and inflatable structures. The conference will address both the theoretical bases for structural analysis and the numerical algorithms necessary for efficient and robust computer implementation. A significant part of the conference will be devoted to discuss advances in new textile composites for applications in membrane and inflatable structures in the building and construction sectors, as well as in innovative design, construction and maintenance procedures.

Structural Membranes 2021 aims to be a forum for discussing recent progress and identifying future research directions in the field of textile composites and inflatable structures.

This collection includes a compilation of documents related to the diffusion and dissemination of the experiment "HPC-enabled system for enhanced seakeeping and station-keeping design (HPC-SHEAKS)" developed in the framework of the Fortissimo2 iniciative.

The HPC-SHEAKS experiment aimed to develop and demonstrate a HPC service for seakeeping assessment using state-of-the-art tools. Moreover, the experiment aimed increase the efficiency of the design, engineering and building processes of a marine structure, by offering to the market added-value tools that can be used further down from the final design phase, and allowing its integration in the design cycle to develop more competitive designs. The ultimate goal was the efficient and easy-to-use integration of available HPC infrastructures with the most advanced seakeeping software (SeaFEM).

NICESHIP PROJECT

The main objective of this research project is the development, implementation, experimental validation and demonstration of a computer calculation tool for the analysis of the navigation of ships in ice. This tool will be specifically design to solve complex multi-phase (ice-water) flow problems with computational times lower than current models. The overall objective of the FIBREGY project is to enable the extensive use of FRP materials in the structure of the next generation of large Offshore Wind and Tidal Power (OWTP) platforms by overcoming the above mentioned challenges. In order to achieve this objective, the project will develop, qualify and audit innovative FRP materials for offshore applications, elaborate new design procedures and guidelines, generate efficient production, inspection and monitoring methodologies, and validate and demonstrate advanced software analysis tools. Clear performance indicators will be designed and applied in the evaluation of two existing OWTP concepts to be re-engineered in FRP within the project. Finally, the different technologies generated in FIBREGY will be demonstrated by using advanced simulation techniques and building a real-scale prototype to validate the materials, tools, solutions, procedures and guidelines to be developed in FIBREGY.

Scope
This is the Open Access repository of the project "Engineering, production and life-cycle management for the complete construction of large-length FIBRE-based SHIPs" (FIBRESHIP) funded by the European Commission under the H2020 framework.

FIBRESHIP intends to fill the various technology and knowledge gaps, and demonstrate the feasibility of using FRP materials in the three vessels categories: light merchant ships, passenger transport and leisure ships and special service vessels.

The project will develop a comprehensive guide covering design issues and approaches within those three categories that will form the basis for future guides and regulations for all ship types. In order to complete this task, representative ships for each category will be designed: a container ship, a ferry and an oceanographic ship.

A planar bisection strategy for multipoint path synthesis of four-bar linkages
Scope
A synthetic method of L\'{e}vy-PSO evolutionary algorithm based on planar bisection strategy is proposed in this paper. The bisection strategy is used to improve the ability of the optimization algorithm to overcome the problems of prematurity and poor robustness. The path synthesis equation of target points is established by using the closed-loop vector method. The bisection strategy is used to cut the variable range of hinge coordinates, and circular proximity function(CPF) is used to turn the synthesis problem that solves variable increases with the increase of discrete points into a synthesis problem that solves variable invariants. An improved particle swarm optimization algorithm based on L\'{e}vy was used to solve the multipoint path synthesis problem. Three examples are given to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The experimental results show that under the acceptable calculation cost, the bisection strategy combined with L\'{e}vy-PSO evolutionary algorithm can get the result of higher accuracy of the synthesis target point, and it is not easy to fall into the local optimum.

PARTICLES 2021 addresses both the fundamental basis and the applicability of state-of-the-art particle-based computational methods that can be effectively used for solving a variety of problems in engineering and applied sciences.

The denotation "Particle-Based Methods" basically stands for two different computational models in solid and fluid mechanics.

On the one hand, it represents discretization concepts in which the response of a continuum is projected onto “particles” carrying the mechanical deformation during deformations. Typical representatives are Meshless Methods, Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) methods, Moving Particle Simulation (MPS) methods, the Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM), the Material Point Method (MPM) and the Lattice-Boltzmann-Method (LBM), among others.

PARTICLES 2021 aims to cover both concepts of particle-based techniques, because of their strong interrelation both in the computation and application points of view.

PARTICLES 2021 are dedicated to the memory of professor D. Roger J. Owen. Who passed away on January 13 2020. Prof Owen was an eminent scientist in the field of computational mechanics. He was also one of the founders of the PARTICLES conference and co-chair of its first editions.

The conference is one of the Thematic Conferences of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) and a Special Interest Conference of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM). Presentations and videos to 10th International Conference on Adaptative Modeling and Simulation (ADMOS)
Scope
Numerical Modeling and Simulation are increasingly used as a complementary tool to Experimental Modeling and Analysis and as a design or certification tool in engineering applications. However, after more than thirty years of scientific investigation around Adaptive Modeling and Simulation, the problem of properly assessing and controlling the quality of the numerical solutions still represents a relevant issue in the scientific community. Nowadays, it is well-established that a certain maturity has been reached in this context, as well as calculations for industrial applications can be verified and error bounds can be provided in many cases. Nevertheless, the design of sophisticated engineering systems requires increasingly complex and coupled modeling and verification tools are still lacking in these cases. Furthermore, new challenges characterize the actual industrial demands, such as fast calculations for real-time decision making, design optimization, inverse analysis, simulation-based control, in particular in the presence of uncertainty.

The main goal of ADMOS 2021 is to provide a forum for presenting and discussing the current state-of-the-art achievements on Adaptive Modeling and Simulation, including theoretical models, numerical methods, algorithmic strategies and challenging engineering applications.

ADMOS 2021 is jointly organized by Chalmers University of Technology, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and CIMNE and it is promoted by the European Committee in Solids and Structural Mechanics (ECSSM) of ECCOMAS. ADMOS is one of the conferences that launched the ECCOMAS series of thematic conferences. The previous editions were held successively in Göteborg in 2003, Barcelona in 2005, Göteborg in 2007, Bruxelles in 2009, Paris in 2011, Lisbon in 2013, Nantes in 2015, in Verbania, Italy in 2017 and in El Campello (Alicante) in 2019.
