In the field of library and information science, content analysis is a fundamental task for the efficient retrieval of information by the users of information systems. In this paper, an analysis is conducted on the current state of this task at six major Spanish film libraries by interviewing those responsible for the content analysis of film collections and performing a comparative analysis of the fields related to film content in the most exhaustive document analysis worksheets employed by each one of these six institutions to catalog their film collections.

Presence of alleged predatory journals in bibliographic databases: Analysis of Beall’s list

Abstract
The presence of journals considered predatory are analysed in various bibliographic databases and in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Of the list produced by Jeffrey Beall of possible or probable predatory open access academic journals, 944 of those are reviewed, cross-referencing their ISSN with the Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals (MIAR) developed at the University of Barcelona. It is then determined whether these journals appear in citation indexes such as Web of Science or Scopus, in multidisciplinary databases, in specialised databases or in the DOAJ directory. The study concludes that there is no significant widespread presence of predatory journals in bibliographic databases, although some such as Emerging Sources Citation Index, Veterinary Science Database or DOAJ show somewhat higher values than expected, and so should be monitored and revised in the future by database producers or by Beall’s list.

Transparency and access to information on research projects in Spanish public universities

Abstract
In the framework of Spain’s Transparency Act of 2013, an analysis is conducted of the information on research projects headed or participated in by Spanish public university teaching staff and funded by public institutions and bodies. The aims are to ascertain whether this information is associated with and published on transparency portals and to determine its typology and characteristics. The analysis covers portals and websites, access points and the type of information furnished. Although universities comply with the transparency obligations laid down in the act, the information on research projects freely available is not individualised and only rarely matched to results (such as articles, patents or conference communications), particulars that would not only encourage knowledge sharing, but enhance the credibility of and trust in research funding.

Abstract
Traditionally, the book uses text, pictures, and drawings to show information. To complement the information, various methods have been used, such as adding tangible objects or models. With the advent of digital books, it is possible to incorporate videos, interactive graphics, photo galleries, and 3D objects. This article describes the possibilities of including 3D models in books that are paper or electronic (read on a desktop or mobile device). For this article we have made several book prototypes in various formats, and instructions are presented so that the reader can visualize the 3D objects contained in them.

A proposal of rankings of Spanish universities in social networking sites

Abstract
University rankings have become popular tools to evaluate the results of academic institutions. The existing proposals of rankings of universities in Spain, based on social networking sites, show some limitations related to their lack of coverage, their specificity, and their lack of transparency in the ranking definition. The goal of this work is to introduce a general design framework for coherent classifications to analyze the impact of all Spanish universities, both public and private, in four social networking sites: Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube. The proposed framework is based on the definition of a criteria taxonomy, the selection of those criteria available in the four social networking sites, and the proposal of various kinds of indicators using them. To illustrate our framework, two case studies are developed evaluating the presence and influence of Spanish universities in Twitter and LinkedIn.

Design of an aggregator for managing informative big data

Abstract
The design and characteristics of a new open source content aggregation program, AXYZ, are described. Several features of the program standout, including the processing engine of syndication channels, monitoring capability of information recovery in real time, possibility of configuration of the aggregator behavior, automatic content classification, and new models for representing information from relational interactive maps. On the other hand, the aggregation program is designed to manage thousands of syndication channels in the RSS format. It also provides statistics that can be used to study the production of any information producer and the impact of the information published in other sources. The AXYZ modules are capable of comparing the relationship between news or information from different sources and the degree of influence which is detected by patterns.

Abstract
Corporate reputation is affected by the growing impact of online reputation, because of the weight of peer recommendations in social media. Digital prosumers’ (McLuhan; Nevitt, 1972; Toffler, 1981; Tapscott, 1997) autonomy and ability on the internet have led them to integrate with stakeholders. Their role in relation to corporate reputation has barely been recognized. In the context of the definition of these concepts, this article proposes analysis models and tools for online reputation study, based on the communicative actions of prosumers. We take a qualitative methodology as the basic strategy to approach the knowledge of the public and the stakeholders. We carry out a critical theoretical review based on secondary sources.

Advertising has traditionally used research as a way to know the consumer, test its campaigns, etc. Thus, data usage is already part of the strategic plan. However, the creative possibilities of data are yet to be fully exploited, especially those opportunities that provide personalization and immediacy. This paper analyzes data usage in advertising creativity through the case of Google’s Art, Copy & Code project and four of its campaigns. This analysis reveals many features that would add value for the user including joint use of various open web technologies and different devices, all within the framework of procedures and structures that are well-established in the advertising field.

Prevalence and ability to recognize academic plagiarism among university students in economics

Abstract
The relationship between knowledge of what constitutes academic plagiarism, knowledge of citation norms, and academic plagiarism perpetration among students in their final year of Economics at an average size Spanish university is analyzed. The research counted on the participation of a sample (n=325) of students who responded to a questionnaire prepared adhoc for this study. This research highlights the deficits that participating students had in determining when a text is plagiarized and in recognizing a citation or a reference. The results suggest an absence in students’ ability to recognize plagiarism relates directly to the commission of it. The study provides data on students who commit plagiarism accidentally and those who do it intentionally.

Situation of documentation services in the Andalusian written media

Abstract
This paper analyzes the situation of the archive departments in 14 of the Andalusian local newspapers. The aim is to update a similar study entitled “Situation of archive services in the daily press of Andalusia” (Aquesolo-Vegas, 1996) in which an analysis of these departments was performed for seven newspapers. This work studies, adapts, and extends the methodology of the above cited study to know how the situation has evolved since 1996. To that end, this field study is based on questionnaires sent to 16 Andalusian newspapers, two per province; 14 of which were completed. Aspects such as tasks, staff, facilities, and equipment are analyzed. The results show a technological restructuring, and also a reduction, or even the disappearance, of these services, due to the economic downturn. Therefore, journalists must now search for documents by themselves.

This article describes in detail, and empirically validates a methodology for raising entrepreneurial intentions among journalism students. The research is based on pre-post surveys of four groups of students (88 in total), ages 18-25, from the Carlos III University of Madrid, and measures the change in the students’ intentions after a period of three months in a sixcredit, third-year, journalism class. The findings contribute to the theories of education and have wider implications for the practice of entrepreneurship teaching among journalism students.

Abstract
The main orthotypographic and paralinguistic characteristics of journalistic tweets using a sample of ten of the most media active Spanish journalists in the network of microblogging Twitter are analyzed. Through a research methodology based on the computer-mediated discourse of computational linguistics and statistical processing of digital messages, 178 journalistic tweets are analyzed using computational linguistics techniques (tokenization and lemmatization) and statistical processing of digital messages (inferential statistics). The results show that the orthotypographic elements with greater representation are the quotes and suspension points in tweets of average length not exceeding 100 characters. Also, the most significant paralinguistic elements are the hashtags, ats, and images in tweets with a low density of words (9.07%).

Civic participation and interactive documentaries: a contribution to the open government model

Abstract
This research introduces the marriage between interactive documentaries (i-docs) and politics as an opportunity to motivate new civic participation and expression in the political sphere. The main objective of this study is to identify the different degrees of civic participation that i-docs permit and to setup a classification according to these levels of engagement. In order to achieve the main objective, this research has analyzed a group of documentaries using a mixture of Gaudenzi, Gifreu-Castells, and Nash methodology. The results show that it is possible to find a parallel between the closed mode and the Orwellian model; the semi-closed mode and the Tokenism model; the semi-opened mode and the playful model; and between the opened mode and the Athenian model. However, only the opened mode, used in the Global lives documentary, offers a real experience that symbolizes the purest representation of an open government system.

Abstract
This study looks at how and if the Spanish central government is currently meeting the laws of transparency and good governance by providing access to public data. The first part is a description of the most relevant legal standards relating to this topic. Subjects, information on recruitment, formats available to reuse information, and platforms on which these public data are published are identified. This study was performed using March 2016 data from the Public Platform for Hiring which is provided by the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration of Spain. The most important finding may be that the law has been correctly applied by the Spanish government for the reuse of information. On the other hand, accessing information is difficult and nearly half of the subjects do not offer hiring data despite this requirement.

The consumption practices of Spanish citizens of open data published by public institutions are evaluated, within the context of the implementation of the Transparency Portal in Spain. Through an online survey, representative of the studied universe, and through an analysis of descriptive statistics, contingency tables and association measures for nominal variables, the degree of awareness about the availability of open data offered by public bodies are compared, their use is described, and reasons for their use are identified. The results reveal low penetration of the open data culture, and citizen distrust of the actions carried out by public institutions for the access, use, and reuse of open data, which will require a change of orientation in communication and stimulation policies.

Since its origins, the discipline of knowledge management has had a unique evolution: going strong at first, followed by solid development, but currently falling into languid stagnation. Abstract
The current digital context holds potential for creators of books art/artist books to go beyond their already innovative, dynamic, and fluid works of art in and around the book. The framework for developing these works of art has led to diverse offerings that need to be analyzed and systematized. This article presents the e-book art (electronic book art) and hyperbookart as two taxonomies that the book art/artist book embraces under the parameters of electronic and internet creation. Both meanings are defined and their pertinent conceptual and aesthetic properties and attributes are studied. Examples are given. The final reflections open several lines of debate about this digital scene, including the heterogenous role of the creator and audience, the authorship of the work, and the transformation of the work towards a multiple original.

The public libraries of Columbia need to situate themselves as places for inclusion, social cohesion, construction of citizenship, and local memory as part of the post-conflict peace process. Colombia’s leaders and institutions, including libraries, have an obligation to go beyond the laws and regulations to achieve the vision of the future that has emerged from the negotiations in Havana, Cuba. There are actions that can be undertaken by libraries to promote social transformation at this historic time. Libraries are territories of peace, where librarians can undertake initiatives that build on citizens’ dreams of a prosperous future.

Abstract
The BBC opened two public enquiries in 2015 during the drafting of the "Report on the Reform of the Charter of the BBC", which will expire in December, 2016. Among the issues raised was the need to create new ways of audience participation. In fact, the BBC has taken steps to integrate audiences through its four Audience Councils: England, Wales, Scotland, and North Ireland. Likewise, in Spain, regional public television offers a specific way for public participation similar to Audience Councils: the Consejos Asesores. The research presented in this paper is based on the “classification of participation” offered by Carpentier and the British and Spanish cases, and it offers some indicators to assess and improve the participation of the audiences in Spanish regional public television.

Social networks produce vast quantities of information that are occasionally relevant to the media agenda. Journalists are faced with the dilemma of whether or not to use social networks as regular sources because they tend to lack qualities like credibility and durability, essential in traditional journalism. The origin of the information from social platforms cannot always can be verified or even identified. We look at the media scene in Spain, where social networks have a relevant and ever-increasing role, and analyze if social media sources are valid, or if professionals should regard them as tools to be used with caution and skepticism. Our study explores the ethical and professional implications of social networks as an information source and as a feedback system.

Using competitive intelligence in collaborative processes in the Spanish pharmaceutical sector

Abstract
It is quite common to find competitive intelligence (CI) activities in pharmaceutical companies. These companies use the CI process, not only to act against competitors, a traditional goal of the CI, but also with the purpose of enhancing cooperation. This paper proposes that this trend should be deeply analyzed so that IC techniques can be adapted to the new demands of information. CI cycle is used to extract offensive intelligence, defensive intelligence, and, more increasingly, cooperative intelligence. The results of a study developed with a sample of 186 Spanish pharmaceutical companies are presented. The main goal was to analyze the extent to which these companies use CI processes for cooperative purposes. Results confirm that companies use CI tools for finding partners to share information sources, funding sources, or to carry out innovation projects.

This article analyzes corporate brand management in companies that enforce a policy of corporate social responsibility (CSR) while also operating a corporate foundation that shares the same company name and brand. The study aimed to (1) define and analyze the presence of the corporate foundation and assess the alignment between brand and foundation in the context of corporate brand identity; and to (2) investigate brand manager perspectives on how corporate foundations promote the social dimensions of the brand and of a company’s corporate identity and culture. Abstract
National policies critically affect the results of scientific production and communication in Latin American countries. Currently, these countries are developing and adapting to the assessment and quality schemes that have existed for some time in other advanced countries in the field of science. Political and economic conditions in Latin America have been favorable in the last five years, although only a few Latin American countries have taken advantage of this situation. In this paper public policies in science in Ecuador and Colombia are analyzed. The objective is to stimulate scientific production and enhance the overall research ecosystem of these two countries. The findings focus primarily on the differences detected in their respective investment policies, their higher education systems, and the volume and quality of their scientific production.

Abstract
Sleeping beauties (SB) is a term that is used to describe scientific articles that pass unnoticed in science for long periods of time until they are rediscovered. This phenomenon is little known in the scientific community and contradicts some of science’s basic presuppositions. At the same time, the current reality of scientific research is defined according to the quantity of information that is produced. Although the SB field of study is little known, it has very specific characteristics that generate a number of cross-cutting interpretations about the way that science reflects on itself. This article explores three problems that the SB spotlights which are conceptualized within the same epistemological approach. We concludes that the SB analysis and the expected increase in the occurrence of SBs offers a point upon which to reflect bout epistemological frameworks of scientific practice.

Abstract
The presence of ethical guidelines in the instructions for authors and reviewers from 214 journals indexed in the Education and Educational Research category of the 2014 edition of the Journal Citation Reports is analyzed. Content and thematic analysis methodology has been followed to examine the presence of topics regarding ethics of scholarly publishing and research. According to the results, 11.2% of the analyzed journals do not include mentions of any ethical topic and the presence of the various subjects studied differs among the rest. The most frequent are criteria for determining plagiarism (63.01%) and duplicate publication (67.12%). Ethical responsibilities of reviewers (7.76%) and sanctions for misconduct (3.20%) have a low presence.

Presence of alleged predatory journals in bibliographic databases: Analysis of Beall’s list

Abstract
The presence of journals considered predatory are analysed in various bibliographic databases and in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Of the list produced by Jeffrey Beall of possible or probable predatory open access academic journals, 944 of those are reviewed, cross-referencing their ISSN with the Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals (MIAR) developed at the University of Barcelona. It is then determined whether these journals appear in citation indexes such as Web of Science or Scopus, in multidisciplinary databases, in specialised databases or in the DOAJ directory. The study concludes that there is no significant widespread presence of predatory journals in bibliographic databases, although some such as Emerging Sources Citation Index, Veterinary Science Database or DOAJ show somewhat higher values than expected, and so should be monitored and revised in the future by database producers or by Beall’s list.

Abstract
In the framework of Spain’s Transparency Act of 2013, an analysis is conducted of the information on research projects headed or participated in by Spanish public university teaching staff and funded by public institutions and bodies. The aims are to ascertain whether this information is associated with and published on transparency portals and to determine its typology and characteristics. The analysis covers portals and websites, access points and the type of information furnished. Although universities comply with the transparency obligations laid down in the act, the information on research projects freely available is not individualised and only rarely matched to results (such as articles, patents or conference communications), particulars that would not only encourage knowledge sharing, but enhance the credibility of and trust in research funding.

Abstract
In this article, we examine the need to re-interpret the control and evaluation of information resources in an environment of online searches and information use that is dominated by search engines and social networks. Taking into account the recent announcement of the end of the ALA’s prestigious Guide to reference, preceded several years ago by the disappearance of selective directories of web resources, including Intute, we explore the potential of content curation as a conceptual and methodological approach that can also be applied to the control and evaluation of quality information resources. These resources can be viewed as “containers” with a clear identity, whose “contents” experience a kind of dissolution within search engines and social networks. Here, we propose the concept of “container curation” as a method for evaluating and contextualising information resources within the realm of libraries and information literacy.

Current educational, professional, and academic environments require skills and accurate tools to efficiently manage large volumes of information. Reading skills are a key aspect in this regard. A new generation of reading tools are necessary; they should be simple to use, yet capable of managing information powerfully. Their aim should be empowering readers by helping them to become more skilled readers capable of an active, effective, and efficient reading. In particular, active reading on digital displays requires assistance in four basic processes: annotation, extraction of content, navigation, and improved effective design. The LiquidText application is analyzed as an example of how new models and metaphors can facilitate interaction with digital texts by reducing complexity through an intelligent simplicity, which is, after all, a recurring demand of contemporary digital design applications.

Abstract
This paper is a reflection on the nature of scientific knowledge production. Being a human process, its characteristics are particularly complex and difficult to establish with standard procedures. Despite the differences between disciplines, the research processes always includes the common application of the scientific method to obtain results in the form of data and publications. In this article the life cycle model of research objects is reviewed. To be understood, data need to be contextualized, something that is difficult if the necessary information is not added at the time they are produced. Electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN), such as LabArchives, LabGuru, and ROHub, have begun to appear in academic settings to facilitate comprehensive knowledge management. It is recommended that ELN systems are used to guarantee research data preservation.

Abstract
Desde las declaraciones de Budapest, Bethesda y Berlín hasta la progresiva generalización de políticas institucionales sobre el acceso abierto en todo el mundo han transcurrido más de 10 años. El camino no ha sido fácil, aunque se ha ido jalonando de logros de diferente magnitud que finalmente han ido conduciéndonos, de manera irrevocable, a la consolidación del acceso abierto como modelo alternativo de comunicación científica. Quizá esta expresión grandilocuente en España debería ser matizada, pero en cualquier caso son muchos los pasos dados hacia el éxito del open access. Uno de los más significativos fue la consagración de un artículo de la Ley de la ciencia, la tecnología y la innovación (España, 2011) dedicado en exclusiva al acceso abierto. Sin embargo el artículo 37 titulado Difusión en acceso abierto, y más concretamente su aplicación, ha generado no pocas dudas en los actores implicados.

A few years ago we had, in Spain, various products for evaluating journals that were useful to researchers and to the Spanish accreditation agencies: Aneca and Cneai. Given the number of products, various research groups collaborated to create a single, unified product: Clasificación integrada de revistas científicas (CIRC) (Integrated classification of scientific journals) with the aim of using it with current research information systems (CRIS). The CIRC classification gave each journal a score (A, B, C, D) and was last updated in 2012. EC3metrics is now announcing the launch of a new CIRC version updated for the current situation, while trying to rescue the original intention of the first version that emphasized CRIS integration. This article describes some of the improvements and changes that have been made in the newly updated version.

With the launch of the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI), Thomson Reuters has created a set of expectations. The Web of Science has become the most comprehensive research platform of journal evaluation. ESCI acts as the waiting room before Thomson technicians check whether journals meet the quality requirements to be indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI), Social SCI, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index databases. ESCI is characterized by its multidisciplinary coverage and its increase in geographic coverage, now reaching non Anglo-Saxon countries. ESCI increases Thomas Reuters range without sacrificing the quality of its reference products. In addition, it contributes to the transparency of the evaluation and selection process.

Abstract
This text explores opportunities for research libraries in the current context of transition to a gold open access model. First, political and organizational considerations are discussed, drawing directly from proposals presented at the recent Berlin 12 Open Access Conference and the unavoidable disagreements in the international open access community about the implementation of this large-scale open access model. Second, we discuss some of the areas where further work is required in order to support the transition to gold open access. Based on the experience implementing the EC/OpenAIRE FP7 Post-Grant Open Access Pilot, three specific areas are described where research libraries need to focus their attention: familiarization with research projects that are being done at their institution, participation in a joint effort to tackle predatory publishing, and intervention in the academic publishing cycle at an earlier stage.

Abstract
Since September 2015, Web of Science has displayed an indicator of a non-bibliometric nature. The new indicator, called “usage count”, measures the number of times the full text of a document has been accessed, and the number of times the bibliographic reference of the document has been exported to a reference manager. The same indicator is computed for two different time frames: one is a rolling window that measures the number of times the document has been accessed in the last 180 days and the other measures all instances of access since 2013. In order to decipher the meaning of this new indicator, apart from reflecting on the actions we expect to measure, an exploratory study was conducted where the new indicators were compared to the traditional citation counts, by pulling two samples of documents: the most cited documents published in 2015 (so far), and the most used ones. The greatest difference found between the two samples indicates the two indicators reflect different types of impact. After all, citations and usage of documents are actions so different in nature that their counts can only offer divergent results. Moreover, a very low correlation was found between these usage counts and the most common altmetrics. However, given the size and bias of the sample (highly cited and highly used documents), the results should be considered with caution. Nonetheless, we can be sure that usage counts enrich the set of bibliometric indicators offered by Web of Science, and that they will provide new insights about previously disregarded documents. Faced with the lost value of information that was traditionally produced by the press, audiences are now turning to social networks and interacting with the news in new ways. And, as a result, the low credibility of the Spanish media is negated by diversifying the sources for news information as people turn to their trusted gatekeeping “friends” who act as watchdogs of the fourth estate. For the moment this new relationship with social media does not mean a distancing from the news produced by professional journalists, but it does require that the media take steps to overcome the perceived loss in value of the information they produce.

This article reflects on the need to re-interpret the control and evaluation of information resources in the current environment of online searching and the information domination of search engines and social networks. Taking into account the recent announcement of the ending of ALA’s Guide to reference, and considering the years before the disappearance of selective directories of web resources like Intute, we attempt to explore the potential of content curation as a conceptual and methodological approach to control and evaluate quality information resources. These resources can be viewed as “continents” with a clear and planned identity where the “contents” experience a kind of dissolution within search engines and social networks. This article proposes the concept of “continent curation” as a method of valuation and contextualization for reference resources within the realm of library and information literacy work.

Este documento presenta los principales hallazgos del Diagnóstico Nacional de la Red Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas (RNBP). El estudio, cuyo trabajo de campo fue realizado entre julio y septiembre de 2013, cubrió el 98% de las bibliotecas públicas adscritas a la RNBP (1.302 bibliotecas, a lo largo y ancho del territorio nacional, de las 1.404 registradas), y recopiló información entre las bibliotecas públicas, los usuarios potenciales y los usuarios reales de las mismas. Ebook lending: between necessity and lack of interest

Abstract
For the first time there is a full-year report (of 2015) of ebook lending from Spanish public libraries, and the outcome does not seem entirely satisfactory. Although it is a short period of time in which to attempt to ascertain the success or failure of ebook lending, data reveals that the service must be improved. The low volume of titles, the lack of a joint catalogue, use of prohibitive DRM, and some other use conditions are even more restrictive than those for traditional print books, and all of this ultimately penalizes the readers’ experience. Librarians are sceptical about the viability of a the current ebook lending model for obvious reasons. These problems are not specific to Spanish public libraries. It is clear to the author that ebook lending is needed, but must follow different rules; the author advocates promoting and improving the visibility of public domain works and abandoning, if only temporarily, other onerous content that hinders other services.
