Abstract

The literature determines that the culture establishes beliefs, roles and appropriate behaviors within close-relationship which help on the permanence of the relationship and the marital satisfaction by means of maintenances strategies. These strategies have been studied from a gender role perspective however, the effect that they have over maintenance strategies is not enough to explain them, therefore it is necessary to include others cultural elements that reflect the beliefs of close-relationships, as cultural premises. The aim of this study was to identify the impact of cultural premises and gender roles have over maintenance strategies and marital satisfaction in 200 people of Mexico City. Through multiple regressions analysis, the results reveal that the influence of premises has over marital satisfaction is different in men and women, in the women are the premises of passion while men are commitment. These results suggest re-evaluating the importance and function that the sexuality has on maintenance strategies and marital satisfaction.

Abstract

New technologies in education have changed the ways people know and think, the mechanisms of apprehension of the reality. In communication terms, the «receptive» use is added to the «interactional» use. This paper analyses the degrees or levels of interaction with computer technology resources settled down by students for a teaching degree from the University of Los Lagos. This is the real impact of the incorporation of the computer technology language and its appropiation in curricular and «extracurricular» contexts, motivated by students and teachers acess to computer technology.

Abstract

Interaction analysis in virtual and hybrid learning environments is a complex issue, since it is necessary to go beyond a quantitative approach (number of messages) and obtain information about interaction dynamics in the context of educational activities. This article presents a set of interaction analysis strategies, which were designed during the development of a doctoral thesis in response to the two challenges identified: First, how can interaction be observed? And second, how can interaction be related to academic performance? The strategies designed provide elements for the analysis of educational activities, of asynchronous on-line discussions, of interaction representation and of the relationship between interaction and academic performance. For the analysis of educational activities, elements of sociocultural activity theory were used. For asynchronous on-line discussions, a content analysis of discussion transcripts was performed using a group of categories reflecting the knowledge construction process. Interaction was represented using the forograma technique, which is an alternative strategy for evaluating on-line discussion forums. The relationship between interaction and academic performance was established by comparing interaction dynamics and the academic performance results of the groups selected. Finally, an example is given to show how the strategies are applied.

Abstract

The potential of technology in digital society offers multiple possibilities for learning. E-books constitute one of the technologies to which great attention has to be paid. This article presents a case study on the perceptions held by a teacher and his students on the use of e-textbooks in a Primary education classroom. It examines students’ meaning-making practices and the perceptions that teachers and students have towards their engagement in learning activities in this context. In the analysis of the data generated, the classroom is considered a multimodal learning space, where virtual, physical and cognitive environments overlap, allowing students to negotiate meaning across multiple contexts and reflect upon it. Results show that e-textbook users’ perceptions greatly depend on the institutional culture in which they are embedded. While the adoption of e-textbooks does not necessarily mean a transition from traditional textbooks to e-textbooks, students and teachers may develop a more demanding range of criteria which must be met by e-textbook providers. By doing this, e-books become a real alternative to free internet resources. Although e-textbooks favor a communicatively active style of learning, there are still real challenges to be overcome by publishers so that e-textbooks do not become the next forgotten fad.

Abstract

Conferences, books, blogs, forums, magazines and courses related to the disciplines of usability, interaction and user experience have shown that the year 2009 saw some deepening in user-centered design techniques and gave more prominence to two key issues: web 2.0 sites and mobile devices designs. To this we must add the launch of interactive games based on augmented reality, a further step in interaction that, coupled with what the Wii offered us a couple of years ago, enables us to see where the videogame industry may be going, as well as the trends in interaction in the coming years.

Abstract

The text analyses the emergence of digital publications designed for the new portable devices with touchscreen. If in the last 30 years the universe of written text went through a mutation from paper to screens, now we are seeing a further stage of this process that recombines these interfaces, the old devices dialogue with the new ones and texts reside in new ‘species’ of hybrid media. The arrival of the emagazines is analysed from a perspective that integrates semiotics of interfaces and media ecology.
