Abstract

Our intention was to study the attitudes of educators in the context of the research project entitled «Integration of Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) as teaching tools at University within the framework of the European Higher Education Area». To do this, a Likert-type scale of attitudes was created rigorously following all the steps indicated by the experts. The scale consists of 24 items along with their characteristics of discrimination (all the t values for each item when compared to the averages among extreme groups are highly significant); reliability (calculated through different procedures, provides us with values, all of which are above 0.95); and validity (factorial validity; criteria validity: a correlation of 0.92 between the scores of the scale regarding the criterion «behaviour») could be considered completely satisfactory.

Abstract

The paper explores the significance of human potentials management in micro and macro transport systems and investigates to what extent do the human potentials represent the factor of growth and development of transport systems. The facts gathered in this paper should represent the quantitative starting points for viewing the specifics of transport service productions and future movements on the transport labour market, and the possibilities of information technologies implementation in transport human potentials management optimizations, all with the aim of producing new and of improving the inherited comparative advantages of the Croatian transport systems. Temeljni cilj ove znanstvene rasprave jest istražiti značenje upravljanja ljudskim potencijalima u mikro i makro prometnim sustavima, odnosno mogu li i u kojoj mjeri ljudski potencijali biti čimbenikom rasta i razvoja prometnih sustava. Dobivene spoznaje u ovoj znanstvenoj raspravi trebaju predstavljati kvalitetna polazišta za sagledavanje specifičnosti proizvodnje prometnih usluga i budućih kretanja na prometnome tržištu rada, te mogućnosti implementacije informacijskih tehnologija u optimalizaciji upravljanja ljudskim potencijalima u prometu, a sve s ciljem proizvođenja novih i oplemenjivanja naslijeđenih komparativnih prednosti hrvatskoga prometnoga sustava.

Abstract

The relationship between information technologies and information professionals is becoming more complex in an environment in which, for the first time, standards and legislation are ahead of implementation and there are many hidden commercial interests. One example is the workshop on open document formats organized by the EU. Confrontation between ODF (ISO 26300) and Microsoft’s attempt to convert Ooxml into an open format through ISO was widely debated, but there was little discussion about practical solutions. Adobe’s strategy, opening its formats when free applications are in use, has proved successful.

Abstract

This is the second part of the analysis of the complex relationships between information technologies and information professionals in an environment in which, for the first time, standards and legislation are ahead of implementation. An example is the different interpretations on how to apply the Spanish “Law on electronic access of citizens to public services” to electronic records management. The idea that digital signatures should be preserved indefinitely with the electronic records presents an unnecessary technological complexity, when other solutions exist.

Abstract

The present and the future of health information are based on eHealth and knowledge management. Some aspects of this future were discussed at the High Level Ministerial Conference on eHealth, held in Barcelona in March 2010, where eHealth was seen as a tool for integration in European politics. The problem of access to health information on the internet and knowledge management policies as an effective tool in the improvement of clinical practice and the search for an excellent health system are also analyzed in this article.

Abstract

The identification of individuals on television using facial recognition biometrics can help the work of audiovisual documentation departments. Basic biometrics concepts are presented, as well as some of the biometrics software available. Opportunities and potential uses for onomastic information management with the aim to partially automate people’s identification in television archives are discussed.

Abstract

A reflection on the emergence of new forms of interactive digital media in the late twentieth century is proposed. Presented as a historical account written in the future, the main mutations experienced by the media ecosystem from the emergence of digital technologies and global networks are described. From a historical perspective the contemporary period is presented as an unintelligible and often contradictory period similar to other phase transitions, such as the Renaissance (XV-XVI century) or the Industrial Revolution (XVIII-XIX). The text also describes some of the theoretical implications and the most salient debates of that period.

Abstract

The experience and results of the development and implementation of a technical-documentary information management system in the enterprise Nuclenor (Power plant of Santa María of Garoña) are presented. In order to share knowledge and contribute as far as possible to the dissemination of this kind of systems in other enterprises and organizations, we explain the organizational strategy and objectives defined by Nuclenor to carry out this project, and analyze the functional requirements of the system. From a technical perspective the development methodology used and the support technological model of the system is presented. Finally, we review the results and benefits of the project for the enterprise, and comment the research lines currently open.
