Abstract

The present article focuses on studying the argumentative structure of the fable of Amor and Psyche in Calderón’s play Ni amor se libra de amor. The analysis is based on three aspects: the reference to taxonomies within the iconic tradition; meta-theatre; the iconological dimension with respect to the status of the image.

Abstract

The second part of ISO 25964 on interoperability of thesauri with other knowledge organization systems is presented in the context of the Internet and semantic web. A review is offered of the main mapping models, the main semantic relation mappings, and the intricacies of mapping thesauri against bibliographical and archival classifications, taxonomies, subject heading systems, ontologies, terminologies, authority lists, and synonym rings. Finally, the implications of the ISO 25964 standard for the theory and practice of knowledge organization systems are discussed.

Abstract

The first part of the Spanish translation and adaptation of the ISO 25964 Information and documentation standard is analyzed: Thesauri and interoperability With Other vocabularies - Part 1: Thesauri for information retrieval will become the new UNE ISO 25964-1. Innovations and implications are presented and discussed, with particular attention to the developments that have been implemented toensure that thesauri become fully interoperable technically and linguistically, so that all the advantages that they offer in an increasingly globalized and interconnected environment can be promoted, offering their strengths to the Semantic Web project.

Abstract

International projects for reforming and broadening the scope of the current technical guidelines and standards on thesauri are presented. The aims of these projects are to recast the existing standards and guidelines, to adapt them to the new digital environment, and to specify their relationship with other vocabulary control tools, making integration easier. These new standards are an excellent opportunity to enhance the visibility of the great corpus of knowledge and experience that information and documentation professionals have accumulated regarding knowledge representation and organization.

Abstract

This article is a theoretical proposal for the new media landscape where many media outputs are made with third-party content. This new form of media is what we could call “metamedia”, because of its singularity and how these medias are being used with other content. From this point of view, this article offers a typology (developed through non-participant observation on the internet) to analyze the new medias and by offering, at the beginning, a definition of metamedia. This article’s findings point to the need to propose a taxonomy that serves to systematize and analyze the different types of metamedia present on the Web. Within this typology, some categories are especially useful to describe characteristics of these metamedias, with examples such as Storyful or Reported.ly, to understand the role of new medias as new mediators. These new medias are developing, in their daily routines, a role as “explainers” and curators of third-party content.

Abstract

Since the emergence of the Internet there has been continuous evolution in interface design, with designers trying to offer a good experience to users. Website developers regularly turn to heuristic indicators that have been collected throughout years of research and praxis. Nevertheless, these indicators are diverse and it is complicated locating which ones are applicable in every case. The objective of this work is to identify and analyze the most scientifically and geographically relevant heuristic indicators through a mapping review, in order to classify them according to formal and content components. The results are two taxonomies which make it easier to identify the location, and analyze and apply the guidelines.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze information and communication competences and their alphabets, both of which are necessary for effective knowledge-based content management. The evolution of the associated specialties or techniques, i.e., literacies, which have emerged to address this task more effectively are considered. The hypothesis that a taxonomic model can be used to order and coordinate literacies, in combination with an application metamodel within the framework of the Voremetur research project, was investigated. The methodology used to complete this analysis adopts an evolutionary approach comprising: (1) a first divergent phase describing the era of literacies and multiple literacies, in which field-specific competences and tools prevail; (2) a second convergent phase of information and digital literacy, whose associated competences become the targets of knowledge; and (3) a third divergent phase, based on multiliteracies, as a consequence of Big Data and its effects, to address which data literacy, together with “digital competences,” emerged as new and complex ways of processing web content. Based on this premise, the classifications introduced by Bawden, Stordy, Secker & Coonan, and Mackey & Jacobson are proposed as a taxonomic model, using the metamodel definition from the Voremetur project. This results in the proposal of a multiliteracy including implementations that range from visual literacy and new media literacy, strategies for the selection of keywords as taxonomic labels, semantic control to define taxonomic categories, to a metamodel definition based on the categories obtained in the taxonomy. The development of the metamodel is presented through a program oriented at higher education within the framework of academic literacy, as a means for incorporation into curricula, including a definition of its paradigmatic and conceptual framework, the factors relevant to its programming and instructional design, educommunication as a didactic methodology approach, and digital educational objects as didactic materials, followed by an appropriate evaluation.

Abstract

In a context marked by the emergence of new platforms and interfaces, digital native media face the challenge of organizing and presenting their content in an effective and eloquent way. This milestone requires ongoing work toward the identification and conceptualization of the dimensions that map the structural and formal requirements necessary for fluid communication with audiences and adequate visibility in the digital ecosystem. This study, which adopts a quantitative–qualitative methodological design, proposes, describes, and applies a taxonomy for the analysis of digital media web interfaces. Based on a review of the literature, two rounds of expert judgment, and a pilot test, the research identifies 14 thematic dimensions, 36 indicators, and 69 variables. The study focuses on the importance of renewing research about taxonomy related to structural dimensions that address narrative, quality, usability, information search, and content redissemination and socialization, among other aspects. The study of web interfaces applied to journalism demands long-term research work with a holistic approach that, at a conceptual and practical level, can offer proposals for analysis and diagnosis on the basis of an integrated method.
