The much-awaited version 1.0 of Scipedia is now live, and you can enjoy numerous new features. In addition to the new look of our home page, you can find an improved search engine with filtering by categories and attributes to customize your search results to find exactly what you want. This release also includes a new version of the LaTeX and Word import utility which fixes many of the limitations detected in previous versions. You can also enjoy a brand-new wikitext editor with syntax highlighting and a renovated toolbar. Furthermore, Scipedia now provides enhanced functionality for journal management, peer-review and publishing. We hope you will enjoy the new Scipedia. Abstract

This article explores the capacity of the media to incorporate controversies in circulation in the public sphere. For that, it is based on the analysis of a set of 607 news stories about violence against women in context of gender relations and proximity collected in nine Brazilian media during the years of 2013 and 2014. Recognized as one of the countries with the highest rates of violence against women, in recent decades Brazil has passed laws aimed at protecting victims and aggravating the convictions of perpetrators, which were the result of intense debates promoted by feminists, researchers and others social actors involved in the guarantee of human rights. The collected news stories were published in the years immediately prior to the promulgation of the Feminicide Law, in 2015. Analyzed through a combination of methodologies, such as content analysis and narrative analysis, the collected news stories show that Brazilian news media are still little permeable to illuminating tendencies of violence against women as a result of gender relations, prevailing approaches that present them as routine and/or futile crimes. Therefore, the analysis makes it possible to perceive that the media are some steps behind the actions and debates that elevate this issue to a dimension of controversy, as those held in academic spaces, by feminist movements and other social actors in Brazil.

This paper is aimed to understand the relation between Television Journalism, journalistic sources and social network communication. Also, it explains how television news production benefits of the contact with journalistic sources, which have changed since the use of virtual platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. This is a non experimental, applicative, descriptive, correlative and multivariable study. The sample consisted in thirty journalists from television news program “ATV Noticias” (Andina de Radiodifusion Company, Lima, Peru). The research concluded that the frequent use of Internet and Social Networks impacted television news programs. This happens during television production process: themes selection, contact with journalistic sources and reporters work, until the outline and the feedback generated by the Social Networks.

The arrival of the New Journalism has certainly changed journalism itself in every single aspect. This new movement seeks to apply narrative resources traditionally assimilated to literature of fiction; thus, creating journalistic texts with stylish and narrative quality enriching News with descriptions, dialogues, opinions and monologues. This article analyzes the characteristics of classic journalism and the New Journalism and as long as this new approach has radically renewed the current journalistic technique.
