Abstract

Three solutions, along with their advantages and disadvantages, are shown to bring the library card to the smartphone: barcode reproduction, Passbook type applications, and NFC technology. Some are simple to implement and others more complex, but all are technically feasible and can be implemented immediately. The smart card concept, which provides a new avenue of communication between the library and the user, is also introduced. Finally, uses of iBeacons are explored.

[Resumen] Introducción. Conocer la operativa del sistema audiovisual en la comunicación móvil, es el objetivo principal de esta investigación. Para ello se analizan los contenidos audiovisuales y la eficacia de las aplicaciones para smartphone iOS y Android de las principales cadenas de televisión públicas y privadas de los cincos primeros países latinoamericanos según datos del PIB Nominal: Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia y México. Metodología. Se desarrolla un estudio cuantitativo, basado en técnicas de análisis de contenido. Resultados y conclusiones. En general, las apps analizadas se pueden descargar desde España, pero el acceso a sus contenidos audiovisuales es muy limitado, ya que es habitual que no se puedan visualizar desde fuera del país de origen. La mayoría de las televisiones estudiadas vuelcan sus programas en la aplicación tal y como fueron emitidos en el canal tradicional. Su principal finalidad es ofrecer contenidos y en pocos casos interactividad. [Abstract] Introduction. The main objective of this research is to learn about the operation of the audiovisual system in mobile communication. In order to do so, there is an analysis of the audiovisual contents and effectiveness of the smartphone apps iOS and Android's of the main public and private television networks of the five first Latin American countries based on the Nominal GDP: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Resumen de la comunicación [EN] The work presented here demonstrates the potential of new generation data arising from innovative policies (based on persuasive technologies) in the transport sector. Improved understanding of the spatial distribution of health impacts arising from the introduction of new travel initiatives will support more targeted and efficient policy development across both the transport and health sectors. Typical health impacts include those arising from changes in levels of personal activity with alternative mode choices. With a sectoral approach to policy development, positive impacts for one sector (i.e. improved transport services) may be negated by dis-benefits in another (e.g. low levels of active travel choice and increased obesity related disease burden). The horizontal notion of equity (Thomopoulos, Grant-Muller and Tight, 2009) is applied using a range of transport-related health outcomes including cancer, heart disease and depression. The research methodology interfaces new generation ‘Track and Trace’ information on individuals location and mode choices (detected as mobile phone app-based sensor data) with a new integrated transport and health model (IHITM), finally calculating an equity indicator based on distributional impacts. Abstract

With the prevalence of smart devices and wireless Internet, privacy has become a pivotal matter in governmental, academic, and technological fields. Our study aims to understand Taiwanese university students’ privacy concerns and protective behaviours in relation to online targeting ads and their habitual smartphone usage. Surveying 810 valid subjects, our results first propose that ad relevance has direct bearing on attention to ads. Second, ad relevance inversely correlates with privacy concerns (i.e. descending personal control and surging corporate power) and protective behaviours (self-filtering and ad evasion). Third and finally, neither privacy concerns nor protective behaviours have a negative bearing on habitual smartphone usage. Opposite to previous research, our study concludes that Taiwanese college students exhibit zero privacy paradox, owing to no signs of privacy concern incited by mobile targeting ads, no evidence of significant protective behaviours, and no decreasing habitual smartphone usage out of privacy concern and protection. Our findings indicate Taiwanese university students’ shaky awareness of potential risks and crises from exposure to vulnerable online privacy management. To deal with this, we suggest educating youths’ understandings of digital jeopardy by experts is urgently needed more so than just technical tutorials of privacy settings.

Abstract

The consolidation of smartphones as dominant devices for access to digital information and entertainment has redefined the processes of production and commercialization of cultural communication industries. The nature of these screens, which prioritize the visual content over the sound, decisively influences distribution strategies in the audio market: radio operators, streaming music platforms and podcast creators need to adapt their value chains to the habits derived from this mediation, especially in the younger audience. This research identifies the practices of mobile use as an audio receiver among adolescents in Colombia, Spain and Mexico –the most representative countries of Spanish-speaking digital sound consumption– based on a descriptive study on a thousand subjects from 13 to 19 years of age. The results confirm the overwhelming dominance in this music menu in the face of low penetration of radio and podcast word content. The selection is based on personal criteria, with little margin for the prescription of family or friends. There is evidence of the roots of individual listening, linked to the brand and the visibility of audio providers, who are obliged to develop diffusion logics based not only on thematic or genre preferences, but also on the user experience.
