Abstract

La Web semántica aún parece una promesa de futuro, y corre el riesgo de pasarle como a muchos jugadores de fútbol, que se quedan en promesas y luego nunca llegan a nada. Existen los lenguajes, que de eso se encarga el W3C y compañía, pero no existe la información marcada o anotada con esos lenguajes, ni existe el software destinado a interpretar esos lenguajes. La mayoría del software que se usa hoy en día en Web semántica son prototipos destinados a la investigación, y aún están lejos, muy lejos, de poder ser usados en entornos industriales.

Description and evaluation of the characteristics of MapTiler, software for georeferencing and publishing old maps on the Web. This software can help librarians and archivists publicize, easily and quickly, the cartographic collections of their institutions. Some use cases of MapTiler are cited.

Abstract

Forensic analysis techniques, usually applied in criminal research, could also be used in libraries to access digital information stored in obsolete formats or storage devices. This article analyses some examples of forensic research departments created by libraries, and describes the minimal hardware and software elements required to set up a library unit specialized in forensic analysis. Two possible equipment settings are introduced and recommendations are given on how to organize a workflow to recover information stored in floppy disks, diskettes and old hard drives.
