Abstract

Throughout 2009 we have seen a number of technology trends that according to the views of most analysts will have a greater role in 2010. Growth and centralization of social networks, the explosion (and future decline?) of communication and real-time search, the proliferation of cloud services, SaaS and virtualization, the emergence of social software applied to Enterprise 2.0, the growing OS war in the cloud, increased internet access using mobile devices, and the emergence of other technologies at home and away, from 3D to augmented reality. Finally, we consider whether we’ll see in 2010 the beginning of the “death of the website concept”.

Abstract

Groupware tools have been standard in the coordination of work in organizations. The development of social networks, has popularized the pattern of collaborative work. This paper aims, first, defining a model for analysis and use of  groupware functionality. Second, using the proposed model to establish whether  groupware tools are evolving by integrating social features into their performance.

Abstract

This article provides an overview of web 2.0 and library 2.0. An analysis is offered of websites widely acknowledged as being successful. These websites were those that led to the new concept web 2.0. Essential characteristics of this type of site are reviewed, such as employing important technologic innovations and novel ways of interacting with users. The second part of the paper analyses the significance of library 2.0 as a web 2.0 application for libraries. After a brief review of the principal definitions, a new one is proposed. Examples are given of the 2.0 services that libraries are currently offering or could offer in the future.

Abstract

Weblogs (or blogs) are tools for editing and publishing all types of content on the Internet, easily and quickly. The research and academic community has taken advantage of them for exchanging ideas and information, thus converting blogs into a new communication channel to disseminate and discuss new scientific advances. However, as has occurred with other traditional means of scientific communication, it would be useful to establish quality criteria for determining the extent to which blogs are a reliable way to exchange scientific ideas. In this article the quality of the formal structure of the blogs is analysed, as opposed to the quality of their content.
