This article presents market characteristics of transport services in Europe. Main goal of this article is to analyze the impact of crude oil price on the export of transport services. Concluded in article characteristics of changes these price and the biggest crude oil exporters and importers all over the world. For these analysis author used data from transport company operating on European market. Cases were also presented, reflecting the situation of many transport companies of the Small Medium Enterprise sector. Authors also tried to find an antidote to the increase in fuel prices. New technologies presented in this article could be proposed as an solution to the problem. They are used to reduce the combustion of fuel and, by doing this, have impact on the reduced price of transport services, and in consequence on competitiveness of these companies in sector of transport. Abstract

To preserve resources for future generation, there is rising agreement that transportation system sustainability should capture attributes of system effectiveness and system impacts on economic development, environmental integrity, and social quality of life. To make the region sustainable, sustainability assessment can be incorporated at the planning level in order to influence decision making, and support policies. This paper present a review on methodologies that can be applied in sustainability assessment in transportation planning which can be used to incorporate sustainability more effectively in the planning process. This review on research study is potentially useful to road and transport infrastructural development agencies who are interested in understanding the range of tools and indicators being used for sustainability assessment, so that they can expand or refine their performance measures to capture sustainability in transportation planning, and using them in evaluating tradeoffs among challenging alternative as well as in identifying major alternative

In the early 1900s the motor-vehicle (car, bus, lorry or motorcycle) was introduced in sub-Saharan Africa. Initially the plaything and symbol of colonial domination, the motor-vehicle transformed the economic and social life of the continent. Indeed, the motor-vehicle is arguably the single most important factor for change in Africa in the twentieth century. A factor for change that thus far has been neglected in research and literature. Yet its impact extends across the totality of human existence; from ecological devastation to economic advancement, from cultural transformation to political change, through a myriad of other themes. This edited volume of eleven contributions by historians, anthropologists and social and political scientists explores aspects of the social history and anthropology of the motor-vehicle in Africa.

Part Three. Mobility in a low-carbon society; With 10.7% of global GHG emissions and 17.0% of global CO2 emissions from fuel combustion in 2005 (ITF, 2010), road transport is a key component of the transport sector's commitment to mitigating its impact on climate. While there is no silver bullet that will provide sufficient abatement given the scale of the effort needed in this complex sector, a review of existing and emerging low-carbon solutions reveals a range of promising levies. Long ignored by carbon pricing mechanisms, the sector will certainly see its emissions abatement furthered by the growing number of carbon pricing initiatives targeted at it. This chapter outlines the global trends of greenhouse gas emissions in the road transport sector and suggests a segmented analysis for those emissions. It then reviews technological, organizational and behavioural solutions for emissions reduction in road transport. Finally, it assesses the potential impacts of economic instruments and other public policies related to carbon emissions reduction, giving a feedback on existing carbon pricing experience in road transport.

Abstract

We live in a time of continuous technical and technological development. It is the time of globalization which is the main driver of the technological procedures in the process of executing transport services. Railway transport in Europe requires special attention, since it has a number of attributes which are not being effectively used. Measures to reduce the use of road network have been prepared, which would consequently increase railway transport. Individuals in personal vehicles could reduce transport costs with the increasing use of railway transport.The introduction of car trains in Europe is also supported by the European Union, but there has been very little done in the European car train system. The first goal of the European union seems to be understandable : using piggyback transport to redirect as much road freight transport as possible to the European railway system. Car trains in the integrated European rail system are one of numerous possibilities of how to offer a user of personal vehicle and his fellow passengers a safe, comfortable,economical and ecologically acceptable way of travel on a specific distance in the local or global sense of combined transport of vehicles and passengers. Živimo v času nenehnega tehničnega in tehnološkega razvoja. Živimo v času globalizacije, ki je glavno gonilo tehnoloških postopkov v procesu izvajanja prometnih storitev. Posebno pozornost je potrebno posveti železniškemu transportu, saj ima veliko pozitivnih lastnosti, ki jih v Evropi se ne izkoriščamo dovolj. Pripravljeni so ukrepi, ki bi zmanjšali uporabo cestnega omrežja, s čimer bi se povečal železniški transport. Posamezniki v osebnih avtomobilih bi tako z večjo rabo železniškega transporta zmanjšali prevozne stroške. Uvajanje avtovlakov v Evropi podpira tudi Evropska unija, vendar je bilo v evropskem sistemu avtovlakov zelo malo narejenega. Prvi cilj unije v oprtnem transportu je razumljiv, da se čim več cestnega tovornega prometa, preusmeri na evropski železniški sistem. Avtovlaki v integriranem evropskem železniškem sistemu so ena od številnih možnosti, kako uporabniku osebnega vozila in njegovim sopotnikom ponuditi varno, udobno, varčno in ekološko sprejemljiv način potovanja na določeni relaciji v lokalnem ali globalnem smislu kombiniranega prevoza vozil in potnikov.

Abstract

The transport, electricity and telecommunication systems, also known as utilities, are under pressure from disruptive technologies, climate change and even unexpected health disasters. Questions related to demand management and safeguarding the functioning of the system are an important part of handling these pressures. In terms of road transport more specifically, the practices currently in use have been unsuccessful in flattening the demand curve or shifting the demand to more sustainable and space-efficient modes of travel. Therefore, the need for new input in the transport sector regarding demand management is higher than ever before. This report is intended to provide new insights for the transport sector based on the practices and methods for managing fluctuating demand found in other sectors, which can be translated into the following research question: What can the road transport sector learn about demand management practices from the electricity and telecom sectors? The analytical framework used for data collection and analysis is based on and combines the socio-technical theory of large technical systems (LTS) with the multi-level perspective (MLP) on sustainable transition into the infrastructure lifecycle model (ILM) introduced by Bolton and Foxon (2015). The findings are divided into three sections: road transport, electricity and telecom, and a matrix summarizing the identified practices and tools in use is provided at the end of each section. The concluding section is structured into specific learnable moments/new insights, providing an overview and discussion of all three systems in parallel with the help of the ILM. These moments include real-time monitoring and interventions, activating end users to make better-informed decisions, and public-private participation in planning and development. Abstract

The study investigated the effects of road transport infrastructure on agricultural sector development in Nigeria from 1985 to 2014, using secondary annual time series data on agricultural development (proxy by gross domestic product in the Agric sector) road transport infrastructure (proxy by length of paved road per square kilometer of area) export and capital, all obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) [3], and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) [16], statistical bulletins. The data were analyzed using Granger Causality test and Ordinary Least Square estimation techniques. The study concluded that a positive and statistically significant relationship exists between road transport infrastructures (LRT) also evidence was found of a unidirectional causality from agricultural sector development to transport infrastructure. The study, therefore, recommends that adequate and timely maintenance of existing roads should be carried out as well as enacting appropriate regulations that ensure proper implementation and completion of new road construction contracts in the country in order to boost agricultural sector development, reduce wastage of farm produce and increase the possibility of economic diversification.
