There are mainly two frameworks to explain the behaviour of GDP in Catalonia. The first one is related to changes and variations in the short term and the second one is linked to the effects of the fundamental determinants in the long run. The motivation of this research is based on delving deeper into both the theoretical and empirical mechanisms through which it can be explained the behaviour of production levels taking into account the two aforementioned periods of time. Therefore, the main interest of the study is to focus on explaining with certainty the aggregate production increases and decreases and the real economic activity growth in Catalonia applying several technical approaches.
