In this work the finite element method combined with a suitable parametrization of the free surface is employed in order to analyze the steady displacement of an inviscid bubble in the liquid that initially fills the space between two parallel plates or a straight capillary tube. Computed values of variables such as the thickness of the liquid film between the bubble and the tube wall are in very good agreement with experimental and theoretical results reported in the literature. The technique employed is able to obtain solutions for a wide range of the Capillary values previously analyzed. The results show a type of recirculating flow that appears to have been overlooked before.
