Abstract

The paper presents the application of several evolution methods applied to topology optimization of structures. This investigation is based on the search of a distribution of material within a specific domain and under given boundary conditions. The algorithms follows Darwin laws of hierachic survival based on their genetic molecular composition: mutation and random crossover of genetic material. Three evolution methods (EM) are considered in this paper: genetic algorithm (GA), evolution strategies (ES) and population-based incremental learning (PBIL). The optimization operator is a structure subjected to point loads and distributed loads. A comparative study of the rriethodology considered is also provided.
