The performance of tunnels under repeated seismic loading is not accurately characterized. Considering that tunnels are currently one of the fundamental arteries of the modern world and that tunnel construction is on the rise in the world (Chile is no exception), Shaking Tunnel Vision aims to redefine the understanding of tunnel behavior Under repeated seismic load, in addition to developing a methodology for the management of disasters in tunnels located in zones of seismic activity and to create a practical case that will become an international reference.

Through the design and installation of a monitoring system in the La Polvora tunnel in the Valparaíso region and in the Santiago Metro tunnel, the project will lay the foundations for a long-term collaboration between four international academic institutions (University of Leeds – University of Dundee – Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaiso – National Technical University of Athens).
