La cadena de bloques blockchain pertenece a la familia de las denominadas DLT o Distributed Ledger Technologies. Según muchos expertos, éstas serán la base de una nueva revolución que hará evolucionar la “internet de la información” hacia una “internet del valor”. Los numerosos campos de aplicación de estas tecnologías y la forma en que quedan documentados los registros de las transacciones, tendrán importantes implicaciones en cómo se crean, almacenan y gestionan los documentos del futuro. Algunos profesionales de la información pioneros, ya han abierto líneas de estudio e investigación sobre los nuevos retos e incertidumbres que se plantean y la capacidad de los actuales métodos de gestión documental para dar respuesta a los mismos.
