Abstract

Digital technologies have increased the influence of technology in business, even changing busi- ness models and strategies of organisations. This influence, called Digital Transformation of Business (DT), happens when there is an increase of the number of digital connections, infor- mation and interactions. This phenomena has been defined as Digital Density (DD) and aims to provide an assessment of the digitalization status of an organization. With the concept of DD we propose the DD Framework, that has two parts: qualitative and quantitative. In order to support both parts we simulate the effect that a platform for smartphones called Waze has on the traffic flow of a city. For the qualitative side, we redefine the concept of DD and with Business Model CANVAS we compare the changes introduced by Waze in the business model. The quantitative part of the simulation is performed with MATLAB and its goal is to under- stand how an agent chooses the path to drive from point A to point B. As expected, we prove that with more information agents can estimate better the costs of the different paths. Despite, even if our simulation seems to prove that the more information the agents have the better the system works, we introduce an analogy with the Braess Paradox to find potential problems and provide solutions for them. We conclude with a proposal of future work.

Abstract

This project consists in building a drone traffic generator capable of spawning random operations in a country. This document provides the guidelines to generate the operations taking into account the existing regulation, the forbidden flight zones, the number of operators and the concept of operations. Using the input parameters, the generator creates and assigns a fleet of drones to each operator introduced. Then, the generator spawns the operations and assigns them to drones, so that each operator has a fleet of drones and list of operations to perform. Furthermore, the operations have an assigned flight schedule to follow the typical workday of the country. The generator also allows visualizing the operations along the day by using the program Google Earth. Moreover, the conflicts and busy areas can also be seen with this program, so that the user can see where they occur. On the other hand, the generated operations are stored in two types of file. The first type corresponds to the XML files, which store the whole information relative to the operators, their fleet of drones and the operations performed by each one. The second type of file corresponds to the MavLink files. These files store the flight plans of all the generated operations. By using the simulator ArduPilot and the software Software in the Loop, the operations can be simulated to obtain the logs. These logs can be used to evaluate, for example, the implementation of ADS-B in drones. Finally, the generator allows changing the parametrization of routes in each simulation, as well as the number of operators and the drone models. Hence, the user is able to see the evolution of drone traffic with the generations. Moreover, the generator allows downloading CSV and XML files, where all the information relative to the generated operations, the assigned fleet of drones and the operators is collected.

Abstract

This project has been developed with the principal aim of simulating CPDLC(Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications) between ATC (Air Traffic Controller) and RPAS (Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems). Communication between ATC and conventional aircraft is possible too. The uprising number of users in airspace compels the aerial communications to reinvent themselves for not collapsing the assigned frequency band. As a solution it is proposed CPDLC communications, an application that allows the direct exchange of text-based messages between a controller and a pilot. The most direct benefits in utilization of CPDLC are: 1) Air traffic management is more efficient. 2) Increase of airspace capacity. 3) Communication, surveillance and route conformance monitoring improvement. 4) Voice channel congestion reduction. The CPDLC code developed is integrated with ATM(Air Traffic Management) simulation program "eDEP", provided by Eurocontrol and it is also integrated with Icarus group research simulations. The project is divided in two main parts: a) Encoding library messages. It has been done the effort of collecting all the possible messages that can be exchanged between ATC and pilot. Messages have been encoded to byte level and it has been prepared to be sent through the net. b) Program graphic development. It has been developed a friendly and understandable graphical environment to be able to interact with a computer for sending the messages in a correct way. As a long term objective, it is expected that CPDLC program can be evaluated by real air traffic controllers in ATM simulations where RPAS and conventional aviation is mixed in non-segregated airspace. TFG will be useful for extracting conclusions about benefits provided by CPDLC and to know the real workload that CPDLC system provides to the air traffic controller.
