Abstract

The Women’s Documentation Centres and Libraries Network, formally established in 1995, links and coordinates 41 Spanish information units which are associated to various entities and are characterised by collections specializing in gender studies, feminism and women in general. Its purpose is to strengthen professional support for staff, library cooperation, solutions to common problems and the development of tools to facilitate the work of these centres. We present its origins, its evolution and development, structure and operation, plus a SWOT analysis that shows the external situation of the network and its internal features.

Abstract

The South West of England is a very extensive region with constraints in terms of its transport network. It is imperative if the region is to optimise its economic development for transport services to fully utilise all transport modes, not least short sea shipping. To achieve this utilisation will require, inter alia, investment in the region’s port infrastructure. In addition, the region is well-placed geographically in relation to a number of other European Union countries to develop seaborne trade links with them. If this can be supported both by the development of coastal shipping links between regional ports and the incremental capability of rail and road transport within the region then substantial increased economic activity for the region could result. Moreover, it will be beneficial if the region’s ports could act as a network, optimising the contribution each port can make. This in no way precludes healthy competition between the ports. Abstract

This paper introduces a project that aims at defining an Open Source Software (OSS) policy in the field of Air Traffic Management (ATM). In order to develop such a policy, we chose to investigate first a set of predictive hypotheses. Our four initial hypotheses were presented, refined and discussed in bi-lateral meetings with experts in the ATM field and in several conferences and workshops with OSS experts. At a roundtable, jointly organized by CALIBRE and EUROCONTROL, we confronted early open source experiences and insights in the ATM domain with experiences and knowledge from a panel of OSS experts and practitioners from academia and industry. The revised initial hypotheses are presented using a fixed format that should facilitate further evolution of these hypotheses. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book
