Abstract

Las etiquetas “Lo más visto”, “Lo más compartido” y “Lo más comentado” son ejemplos de la lógica que las herramientas de analítica web imponen a los medios digitales en un ecosistema informativo en el que la audiencia, que hoy se puede cuantificar más al detalle que nunca, ha adquirido un protagonismo enorme. En este contexto, el presente artículo se centra en estudiar cómo se construye hoy la agenda de los medios en relación con la creciente importancia dada a las estadísticas de páginas vistas. SE analizan las implicaciones de este nuevo escenario en nuestras sociedades democráticas. Esta investigación toma la forma de un caso de estudio sobre dos de los principales diarios españoles, Lavanguardia.com y Elperiodico. com, recurriendo al análisis de contenido y a entrevistas en profundidad con profesionales en activo. El objetivo es dar respuesta a la siguiente pregunta: ¿qué peso tiene el interés público en las noticias y el contenido viral o anecdótico que se propaga en la web? AbstractThe labels “The most viewed”, “The most shared”, and “The most commented” are examples of the logic from web analytics tools in an information ecosystem where the audience has acquired an enormous role because it is now possible to quantify more precisely than ever before. In this context, the present investigation focuses on how the digital media agenda is currently being constructed in relation to the increasing importance given to pageview statistics. The implications of this new scenario for our society as a whole will be analyzed. This research takes the form of a case study of two of Spain’s leading newspapers, Lavanguardia.com and Elperiodico.com, using content analysis and in-depth interviews with working professionals. The aim of the research is to attempt to answer the following questions: How relevant is public interest news? How much importance is accorded to anecdotal and viral content?   

Abstract

There is growing concern that MSP is not facilitating a paradigm shift towards democratic marine management and that it may simply repackage old power dynamics in the rhetoric of participation. MSP has been advanced using the logic of 'rationality' and 'post-political' forms of planning that emphasise consensus and managerial-technological apparatuses for the governance of socio-political natural spaces. MSP has been described as the rational organization of the use of marine space. Rationality is, however, context dependent and the context of rationality is power. MSP processes are, therefore, arenas where specific and multiple instances of power manifests itself. MSP is also an inherently political (sensu Mouffee, 2005) process. Rather than acknowledging debate and dissensus, MSP is advanced as a neutral, participatory process that can develop win-win outcomes. The result is a choreographed form of governance and participation, with clearly defined roles, processes and acceptable outcomes, which renders invisible the politics of disagreement and legitimises the agendas of dominant actors. This chapter argues that to recapture its democratising potential, MSP requires explicit engagement with power and politics. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book

Abstract

Sustainable infrastructure demands that declared principles of sustainability are enacted in the processes of its implementation. However, a problem arises if the concept of sustainability is not thoroughly scrutinized in the planning process. The public interest could be undermined when the rhetoric of sustainability is used to substantiate a proposed plan. This chapter analyses the manifestation of sustainable development in the Boggo Road Busway Plan in Brisbane, Australia against the sustainability agenda set in the South East Queensland Regional and Transport Plans. Although the construction of the Busway was intended to improve public transport access in the region, its implementation drew significant environmental concerns. Local community groups contested the ‘sustainability’ concept deployed in Queensland’s infrastructure planning. Their challenges resulted in important concessions in the delivery of the Busway plan. This case demonstrates that principles of sustainable infrastructure should be measurable and that local communities be better informed in order to fulfill the public interest in regional planning.
