Abstract

International audience; The task of feeding cities is a challenge that nowadays all governments face, which involves the coordination of multiple producers, distributors, logistics operators and traders of perishable foods. With the increasing population in cities, more food and better freight transport systems are required. This takes a particular importance in cities and urban zones, since the growing population needs to be fed, but freight transport is often seen as creating nuisances such as congestion or pollution, among others. In this context, several cities started to think on how improve the city’s food supply system by combining proximity producers’ supply with advanced city logistics systems in order to decrease transport nuisances and improve the quality and sustainability of the food system.One of the possible actions is that of deploying proximity food hubs with a consequent urban food distribution system to supply the different urban zones of a city. However, this type of system is starting to be conceived and there is need of assessing the impacts of such alternative before thinking on its deployment possibilities. For this reason, this paper aims to propose a framework to assess different food delivery alternatives in the urban context focusing on a Food hub deployment and its impacts on urban development as a solution of urban consolidation center (UCC).The objective of this study is to enable municipalities to assess the consequences of food logistics flows centralization on an UCC-based food hub. Regarding the context of the research, the study focuses on a Food hub deployment to share the supplies for administrative restaurants of a city, following the sustainable food strategy of a French municipality. This municipality decided to show the example in terms of sustainable food supply and aims to increase the part of organic and local food for the administrative restaurants under its coordination. To do this, a specific food system needs to be conceived and assessed. To assess the suitability of such systems, it will be necessary to model both the demand and the logistics supply, to define the main indicators of sustainability and their estimation methods, then to construct the scenarios to assess and finally make the corresponding analyses. With a marked increase in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) being designed and deployed for cars, there is a logical emergence of studies that critically examine the influence these have on driver behavior and attitudes towards risk and safety. The research question addressed within this paper asks to what extent the level of perceived criticality or risk on the part of drivers influences their acceptance of advanced assistance. One of the main topics in IT Portfolio Management, according to IT Governance models, is to plan and control information systems that are aligned with the company mission and objectives. The goal of the IT Portfolio Planning is to define which information systems are necessary and with which priority. In general, planning methodologies trace directions from a present point to a future and desired target. However, in many cases, companies can not control situations; events may occur that can not be avoided. A scenarios-based planning methodology can help managers to identify future events, their probability and consequences. A scenario represents a future situation that can not be controlled nor can be avoided. However, the study of future scenarios can help managers to plan reactions, so that company can create mechanisms for avoiding problems or for minimizing bad consequences. The goal of this chapter is to present an adaptation of the scenario-based methodology for IT and Information Systems Planning. The chapter will describe in details each step of the proposed methodology and discuss a study case. Steps include the identification of different scenarios and their corresponding antecedent events, the determination of probabilities and consequences of the events, how to calculate risks and how to plan Information Systems and IT resources to manage each scenario. Abstract

This paper introduces a project that aims at defining an Open Source Software (OSS) policy in the field of Air Traffic Management (ATM). In order to develop such a policy, we chose to investigate first a set of predictive hypotheses. Our four initial hypotheses were presented, refined and discussed in bi-lateral meetings with experts in the ATM field and in several conferences and workshops with OSS experts. At a roundtable, jointly organized by CALIBRE and EUROCONTROL, we confronted early open source experiences and insights in the ATM domain with experiences and knowledge from a panel of OSS experts and practitioners from academia and industry. In recent times, innovative new e-Infrastructures have materialized all around the globe to address the compelling and unavoidably increasing demand on computing power and storage capacity. All fields of science have entered an era of digital explosion and thus need to face it with appropriate and scalable instruments. Amongst century’s cutting-edge technologies, the grid has become a tangible candidate which several initiatives have harnessed and demonstrated the added value of. Turning the concept into a concrete solution for Neurosciences, the neuGRID project aims to establish a grid-based e-Infrastructure providing neuroscientists with a powerful tool to address the challenge of developing and testing new markers of neurodegenerative diseases. In order to optimize the resulting grid and to deliver a user-friendly environment, neuGRID has engaged the process of migrating existing imaging and data mining toolkits to the grid, the so-called gridification, while developing a surrounding service oriented architecture of agnostic biomedical utilities. This chapter reports on a preliminary analysis of the issues faced in the gridification of neuroimaging pipelines and attempts to sketch an integration model able to cope with the several and heterogeneous applications used by neuroscientists. How to react to an unexpected and challenging situation that has never been thought of before it happened? A situation for that no checklist exists and no training could be performed? The EU-funded project Man4Gen, Manual Operations of 4th Generation Airliners, which has been successfully completed in 2016, employed human-in-the-loop simulation as an e?ective tool used to analyze the crew response in unexpected and ambiguous situations. Based on an exploratory simulator study on the crews' behavior during these situations the so-called Risk Information System was developed to support crews in their decision-making and problem solving. The paper gives an overview of the conduction and results of the exploratory simulator study leading to the development of the Risk Information System. The system's new philosophy of displaying failures is explained and the results of its proof-of-concept evaluation are shown. Document type: Book

Abstract\r This book provides an international perspective on improving information to support transportation decision making. It comprises a selection of papers plus workshop syntheses from the 9th International Conference on Transport Survey Methods in Chile in November 2011. The conference was organized into 14 workshops with both paper presentations and discussions in the workshops forming the majority of the conference activity. The papers reported primarily on research pertaining to continuous improvement in transport survey methods — the backbone of the transportation data pipeline in most countries. But some papers also addressed the new ways in which innovation — notably technological innovation — is being applied to the capture and analysis of data to produce necessary information faster, better, and less expensively. The conference program built on a rich legacy of intellectual pursuits spanning the past two decades, and it is anticipated that the conference will continue into the future. Thus, the contents of this book represent a 5–10 year view through a moving window on the international state of the practice and concerns in transport survey methods. High reliability organizations do exist. They have been defined as those organizations that conduct thousands of high-consequence operations a year, essentially error-free. Naval air carriers, air traffic control, and commercial aviation are some of these kinds of organizations. How did they get that way? What kinds of people staff them? Can we become a high reliability organization? This workshop will look at these questions. When we are done, it will be up to you to determine whether we have the right stuff. There are six goals for this workshop: Describe Team Resource Management and its purpose; Describe Performance Shaping Factors (PSFs) and their role in predicting and managing team performance and errors; Describe the principles for managing human error; Describe TRM?s 12 rules-of-thumb (the ?Dirty Dozen?) and use of safety nets; Conduct Operational Risk Management (ORM); Demonstrate ways to keep TRM working.
