Abstract

We investigate the impact of massive electric vehicle (EV) adoption onto the power market, both in the presence and in the absence of significant photovoltaic (PV) generation. Although results are derived taking into consideration Italys power market, results are of relevance also to other industrialized countries. One of the most important outcomes of the analysis, that is, the synergistic and beneficial effect on the overall energy bill of the concomitant expansion of EVs utilization and the growth of the renewable energy generation, particularly solar photovoltaics. The Conclusions provide arguments for policymakers for further support to sustainable mobility in their regions.

Population growth in the world had a constant value since the beginning of a new era to the 19th century when the population was 1 billion. The technological revolution is largely in? fluenced by that in this century, the population increase by 68 %. The population in the world increased by about 270 %, or over 6 billion people just in the 20 century. Although the UN in [1], estimates three possible scenarios of population growth in this century, the pic? ture 1, is the most possible one that predicts that the world population will increase by 2050. to about 8,9 billion, and afterwards it will be a slowdown so that by the end of the 21st cen? tury, and in the next few, does not expect the growth of population in the country. In any case, in the near future over the next four decades strong growth of the population is expect? ed. With the growth of population in the world there is a need to increase transportation of people, goods and raw materials as a prerequisite for the growth of production and con? sumption and the standards of living. Abstract

Climate change and CO2 emissions is an important issue on the agenda of many politicians. Trying to decrease CO2 emissions, influences transportation, power production, etc. The power system is characterised by an increasing amount of renewables, with one of the most expanding renewable power sources being wind. Wind energy is fluctuating by nature, calling for increasing flexibility elsewhere in the energy system. For Denmark, hydro power from Norway help stabilizing the system, as does export of excess wind to Germany, although the latter is decreasing in use because of large correlations between high wind production in northern Germany and western Denmark. To decrease CO2 emissions through a decrease in the use of fossil fuelled plants, along with an increase the amount of renewable energy, the power system needs more flexibility such as flexible demands, storage etc. Flexibility could also come from the road transport system. Counting for 24% of the CO2 emissions in Denmark in 2009, the road transport system needs to move towards, e.g. electric drive vehicles. However, the electric drive vehicles are also demanding electricity from the power system. This brings both challenges and opportunities to the power system. One challenge is, that intelligence is needed unless peak-load is to increase drastically. With intelligent charging of the vehicles, though, the electric drive vehicles can be of great benefit providing flexible demand and charging at night time, instead of being regarded as yet another load and challenge for the energy system. Furthermore, discharging of vehicles can provide services to the power system. The batteries in the electric drive vehicles are batteries invested in anyway. Hence, why not use these actively for cheap storage by the energy system? Furthermore, the use of vehicles are opposite to the remaining demand for energy; e.g. while people are making dinner their vehicles will often be parked, being able to deliver back-up power - again, a great opportunity for the power system. In this PhD project I have focussed on modelling and analysis of a future integrated transport and power system. An integrated power and transport system enables analyses of the interactions between different parts of the energy system. The object of interest is an optimal configuration of an integrated power and transport system as well as I will be focussing on the drawbacks and benefits for the power system incorporating an electrified transport system. I have performed analyses in terms of integrating more renewable energy, for both Denmark as an isolated system and for the northern European countries including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Germany. The analyses are performed using the deterministic energy systems analysis model, Balmorel. Furthermore, analyses have been made for the Irish power system on the influence of introducing electric drive vehicles in a predefined power system, using the stochastic energy systems analysis model, Wilmar. Interesting is, that it turns out to be most profitable to invest in enough wind to more than cover the electrified transport in Denmark. This holds, both when modelling Denmark as an isolated country, and when including the interactions between the Nordic countries. Furthermore, analyses show that fuel cell electric vehicles are not yet ready for competing with the other vehicle types. This is, among other things, due the technologies not being cheap enough, thus, the development is not expected to have reached a competitive stage. Another interesting finding is the results showing that it is beneficial for Ireland to have electric drive vehicles in terms of both costs and CO2 emissions. However, introducing the electric drive vehicles in Ireland, imply an increase in both costs and CO2 in the Great British side, as most of the power for the vehicles is produced on British coal power plants. Thus, focusing nationally, Ireland should invest in the electric drive vehicles, although, on an international level, the investments are costly. Document type: Book

The transport sector is witnessing unprecedented levels of disruption. Privately owned cars that operate on internal combustion engines have been the dominant modes of passenger transport for much of the last century. However, recent advances in transport technologies and services, such as the development of autonomous vehicles, the emergence of shared mobility services, and the commercialization of alternative fuel vehicle technologies, promise to revolutionise how humans travel. The implications are profound: some have predicted the end of private car dependent Western societies, others have portended greater suburbanization than has ever been observed before. If transport systems are to fulfil current and future needs of different subpopulations, and satisfy short and long-term societal objectives, it is imperative that we comprehend the many factors that shape individual behaviour. This chapter introduces the technologies and services most likely to disrupt prevailing practices in the transport sector. We review past studies that have examined current and future demand for these new technologies and services, and their likely short and long-term impacts on extant mobility patterns. We conclude with a summary of what these new technologies and services might mean for the future of mobility.

International audience; City systems, consisting of the various social and technical infrastructures required for urban areas to function, are facing major challenges in the coming decades as global urbanization and the pressure on resource efficiency and sustainability continue. Agent-based simulation and modelling techniques enable us to study these systems from various levels of abstraction looking at actors as well as system level perspectives, and are particularly suited to understand the dynamics of underlying structures and experiment with various scenarios and the effect of local decisions on emerging system properties. This special issue aims to showcase innovative use of agent-based modelling (ABM) and multi-agent system (MAS) approaches for effective decision support regarding urban innovations in fields linked with urban development and to explore and identify how researchers in different disciplines integrate their knowledge through agent models. We are inviting researchers from across a wide range of disciplines (including computer science, physics, engineering, economics, sociology and others) to submit papers to this special issue that exhibit state-of the art innovation in ABM/MAS applied to cities. This innovation may come in the form of computational, conceptual, analytical, participatory or epistemological advances for a range of aims and motivations associated with the challenge of combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development in city systems. International audience; Electric or hybrid vehicles are very silent, which represents a major advantage for the reduction of noise annoyance in urban areas. But this makes them dangerous for pedestrians, especially vulnerable ones as visually-impaired people. Current solutions consist in using warning sound so that the exterior noise of an electric vehicle is as high as for a conventional one. This may cancel the benefit of electric vehicles for the reduction of sound annoyance. The eVADER project (funded by the European Commission) aims at proposing a prototype car which combines a high safety and a low noise level. A part of the the work program consisted in perceptual studies. The goal of these studies was to evaluate the influence of various timbre parameters on the detectability and the unpleasantness of a warning sound. Results show that it is possible to make an electric vehicle easily detected while keeping its sound level much lower than the one of a conventional car.

The 13th International Conference on Logistics in Agriculture, which has been organized by the Municipality of Sevnica, Grm Novo mesto - Biotechnology and Tourism Center, Faculty of Logistics, University of Maribor, Landscape Governance College GRM, Cooperative Union of Slovenia has this year's central theme the role and importance of human resources in logistics in agriculture. The conference has become traditional and paves the way for a different view of logistics in connection with agriculture. That's why we have invited lecturers on the topic Electric vehicles in agriculture. 13. mednarodna konferenca Logistika v kmetijstvu, ki jo organiziramo Občina Sevnica, Grm Novo mesto – center biotehnike in turizma, Fakulteta za logistiko Univerze v Mariboru, Visoka šola za upravljanje podeželja GRM Novo mesto in Zadružna zveza Slovenije ima letošnjo osrednjo temo vloga in pomen človeških virov pri logistiki v kmetijstvu. Konferenca je postala že tradicionalna in utira pot različnim pogledom logistike v povezavi s kmetijstvom. Ravno zato imamo vabljenega predavatelja na temo Električna vozila v kmetijstvu.
