Abstract

The reliability of the technical manufacturing base of each state depends on the supplies of energies and drinking water in standard as well as extraordinary conditions. An extraordinary event or crisis situation can be caused by natural influences and anthropogenic events. Whereas in standard conditions, the supply of energies follows from contractual relationships, in case of extraordinary event it follows from a real situation that has occurred in the concerned entity of technical infrastructure. A common condition of technical–operational safety and manufacturing activity of all entities in standard and extraordinary situations is the reliability and continuity of water supplies for technological and sanitary purposes. This article presents what the threats and natural and anthropogenic conditions that can disrupt or completely exclude manufacturing processes are and how these threats can be effectively coped with in the real environment.

International Journal of Numerical Methods for Calculation and Design in Engineering (RIMNI) contributes to the spread of theoretical advances and practical applications of numerical methods in engineering and other applied sciences. RIMNI publishes articles written in Spanish, Portuguese and English. The scope of the journal includes mathematical and numerical models of engineering problems, development and application of numerical methods, advances in software, computer design innovations, educational aspects of numerical methods, etc. RIMNI is an essential source of information for scientifics and engineers in numerical methods theory and applications. RIMNI contributes to the interdisciplinar exchange and thus shortens the distance between theoretical developments and practical applications.

Desde 1985 la Revista Internacional de Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería (RIMNI) contribuye a la difusión en castellano, portugués e inglés de los desarrollos teóricos y aplicaciones prácticas de los métodos numéricos, tanto en relación con su utilidad como instrumentos de cálculo y análisis para el ingeniero y el científico, como en aspectos que inciden en las nuevas tecnologías de diseño y proyecto de producción y procesos en ingeniería. La revista abarca áreas diversas, tales como: modelos matemáticos y numéricos de problemas de ingeniería, desarrollo y aplicaciones de los métodos numéricos, nuevos avances en temas de software, innovaciones en el campo del diseño por computador, aspectos didácticos de los métodos numéricos, etc. La revista constituye una fuente de información imprescindible para ingenieros y científicos sobre innumerables temas relacionados con los métodos numéricos y sus aplicaciones, contribuyendo a promover la transferencia de conocimiento interdisciplinar y, por consiguiente, a acortar la distancia que existe entre los desarrollos teóricos y las aplicaciones concretas.

Abstract

Cement is the most used construction material in the world (3670 MT/year are generated), being highly polluting, emitting aproximately one ton of CO2 per ton of cement. In this sector, in which the search for more sustainable materials becomes essential, the geopolymers or alkaline cements are introduced as an ecological alternative, resulting in 80% less polluting and requiring 50% less of energy comsumption in the manufacturing process.

In this context, GeoCel project is oriented to the developing of ecological construction materials to get concretes and mortars (without Portland cement) of cellular structure. Different constructive solutions were proposed for these inovative materials as wall cladding and insulation panels and  continous and draining  pavements.The caracterization of the different solutions was carried out bymechanical resistance, fire resistance and thermal conductivity tests, among others, based on the requiremens imposed at the industrial level, in order to evaluate the technical viability of the new materials. The results obtained have been promising, getting mechanical strengths superior to conventional materials  in case of mortars , as well as classification of reaction to fire A1.

Abstract

There is no doubt about the attractiveness of the augmented and virtual reality technologies, also for the largest IT companies but still it is not clear their real value excepting for entertainment, in the videogame industry.

Nevertheless, there are some initiatives trying to show that it could have some room for these technologies in the AEC sector, as not only an expensive and dazzling novelties, but also to be a useful tool.

This talk would like to contribute to this debate. It includes a review of both technologies, describing of two of the most recent devices, HTC Vive and MS Hololens, as well as software, such as unity 3d and Vuforia, used to create AR/VR experiences, and a couple of examples to assess their potential practical use.

Mr. Oscar de Coss, is a civil engineer and has recently finished his Master in Structural and Construction Engineering at the UPC with a work entitled "Augmented reality applied to construction".

Ms. Sara Rebollo is currently finishing her civil engineering degree, and is working in a final thesis about how to apply virtual reality experiences to strength the awareness of the workers about the risks in a building site, as a possible activity in the occupational safety and health plan.

In this paper, we devise cell-based maximum-entropy (max-ent) basis functions that are used in a Galerkin method for the solution of partial differential equations. The motivation behind this work is the construction of smooth approximants with controllable support on unstructured meshes. In the variational scheme to obtain max-ent basis functions, the nodal prior weight function is constructed from an approximate distance function to a polygonal curve in R-2. More precisely, we take powers of the composition of R-functions via Boolean operations. The basis functions so constructed are nonnegative, smooth, linearly complete, and compactly-supported in a neighbor-ring of segments that enclose each node. The smoothness is controlled by two positive integer parameters: the normalization order of the approximation of the distance function and the power to which it is raised. The properties and mathematical foundations of the new compactly-supported approximants are described, and its use to solve two-dimensional elliptic boundary-value problems (Poisson equation and linear elasticity) is demonstrated. The sound accuracy and the optimal rates of convergence of the method in Sobolev norms are established.

Abstract

Recycling is an important habit to avoid waste. This paper evaluates the performance of masonry mortar, elaborated by replacing natural sand with recycled fine aggregate (RFA) obtained from mortar. Five families of mixtures were prepared with different replacement proportions: 20%, 40%, 60%, and 100%. A 1:4 volumetric cement-to-aggregate ratio was used for all mixtures by experimentally adjusting the amount of water to achieve the same consistency of 175 ± 5 mm. The effects of the following procedures were analyzed: (1) the use of a deconstruction technique to collect the RFA, (2) pre-wetting of the aggregates, and (3) the use of a commercial plasticizer. Experimental results show that it is possible to use this type of recycled fine aggregate as a substitute for natural sand by up to 60% in the manufacture of masonry mortar without significantly affecting its properties.
