Abstract

International audience; With the rapid size shrinking in electronic devices,radiation-induced soft-error has emerged as a major concern to the current circuit manufacturing. In this paper, we present a new error correction scheme based on the residue number arithmetic to cope with the single soft-error issue. The proposed technique called bidirectional redundant residue number system requires the redundant moduli to satisfy some constraints to achieve fast error correction. In this system, both the iterations for decoding the valid number and the error-correcting table that contains all combinations of erroneous digit, are not necessary. The detection and the diagnosis are simultaneously performed in plural parallel consistent-checking that has the capability of locating the corrupt digit. Finally, efficient pipeline architecture for the self-diagnosis decoder is detailed.

Abstract

One source of accidents when driving a vehicle is the presence of homogeneous and heterogeneous fog. Fog fades the colors and reduces the contrast of the observed objects with respect to their distances. Various camera-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can be improved if efficient algorithms are designed for visibility enhancement of road images. The visibility enhancement algorithm proposed in [1] is not dedicated to road images and thus it leads to limited quality results on images of this kind. In this paper, we interpret the algorithm in [1] as the inference of the local atmospheric veil subject to two constraints. From this interpretation, we propose an extended algorithm which better handles road images by taking into account that a large part of the image can be assumed to be a planar road. The advantages of the proposed local algorithm are its speed, the possibility to handle both color images or gray-level images, and its small number of parameters. A comparative study and quantitative evaluation with other state-of-the-art algorithms is proposed on synthetic images with several types of generated fog. This evaluation demonstrates that the new algorithm produces similar quality results with homogeneous fog and that it is able to better deal with the presence of heterogeneous fog.

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, we present the architecture of an innovative docking station for electric vehicles recharging and a hybrid control scheme for automatic docking of the vehicles. This work is a part of on-going project concerning the development of a smart charging station for electric vehicles equipped with an automated arm, which connect the vehicle to the charging station, and an infrared beacon system for localizing the automatically maneuvering vehicle in the docking area. The proposed control scheme combines time-optimal (bang-bang) control with continuous time-invariant nonlinear control, which stabilizes the vehicle to a small neighborhood of the docking point. Simulation and experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

Abstract

International audience; Nowadays pedestrian detectors are fast, scale-robust and quite efficient. Embedded within a UAV such a detector would open new possibilities. In this paper the very well known HOG detector is adapted for UAV use and a new kind of training dataset is proposed in order to increase the detector's angular robustness. A more appropriate set of detection windows, together with a new detection pipeline, is proposed in order to reduce the search space and consequently reduce the computation time. Tests conducted using the improved detector show significantly better results on aerial images.
