The year 2012 witnessed the launch of Frontiers of Architectural Research . Looking back on the past year, to our delight, the original goal is being achieved through the four issues, that is, to publish scientifically and technically sound papers as well as high standard papers dealing with the social aspects of architecture. Therefore, we are confident that the future of this journal is promising. We are looking forward to the efforts and fruits next year, in the hope of making this journal a vibrant platform for rapid communication among international scholars, architects, and engineers.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the editorial board members for your hard work and guidance. They are indispensable to the success of this journal. I would also like to express my gratitude to our reviewers for your prompt and rigorous review, which ensures the academic standard of the journal. Last but not the least, I thank all who pay close attention to this journal, especially those who have accessed the published papers. We are proud to be able to provide you with the latest information on the research of architecture.

My special thanks go to Dr. Ming GE with Southeast University and Dr. Han FENG with Delft University of Technology. They worked as the Executive Editors-in-Chief and made the 3rd issue of 2012 possible.

This issue, the 4th one of 2012, sees the birth of a new column section. Scholars, architects, and engineers who make important contributions to their areas will be invited to host the column. The idea is to put aside the rigid format of academic papers and present well-written essays to more freely discuss and even debate those topics on the academic frontier of architecture. I hope our readers will find this new column section enjoyable.

I wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year!

Sincerely yours,
