Abstract
The familiar low cost biodigestores are an important tool for urban and rural development. These natural systems fulfill the criteria of appropriate technology, producing biogás and improved natural fertilizer, through the anaerobic digestion of organic remainders. Also the health and hygiene of the families, as well as of the cattle, affect positively, being a sustainable handling environmentally of remainders that otherwise are polluting. The potential of this technology in Bolivia is very high, and once it has already been developed to cover the three different regions (Altiplane, valley and jungle), validated like development tool and accepted by the families, it is precise `to popularize the technology', so to make it accessible to the greater number of people. In this article a review to the development of the biodigestores in Bolivia, its adaptation to high altitudes, as well as the learned lessons is made, to in the end comment the first steps that already are occurring to popularize this technology.
Resumen
Los biodigestores familiares de bajo costo se significan como una herramienta importante para el desarrollo rural y peri urbano. Estos sistemas naturales cumplen los criterios de tecnología apropiada, aportando biogás y fertilizante natural mejorado, a través de la digestión anaerobia de residuos orgánicos. También inciden positivamente en la salud e higiene de las familias, así como del ganado, siendo un manejo sostenible medioambientalmente de residuos que de otro modo son contaminantes. El potencial de esta tecnología en Bolivia es muy alto, y una vez que ya ha sido desarrollada para cubrir las tres ecoregiones diferenciadas del país, validada como herramienta de desarrollo y aceptada por parte de las familias, es preciso ‘democratizar la tecnología’, es decir, hacerla accesible al mayor número de personas. En este artículo se realiza un repaso al desarrollo de los biodigestores en Bolivia, su adaptación, así como las lecciones aprendidas, para comentar al final los primeros pasos que ya se están dando para democratizar esta tecnología.
