About me

Professor, Director of the Civil Infrastructure Research Center, Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research of Civil Engineering and Surveying Department, University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez. Obtained Bachelor and Master Degrees in Civil Engineering at UPRM and PhD at University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Research interests include behavior of reinforced concrete structures subjected to earthquake loads, mitigation of natural hazards, and resilience of infrastructure.  Some sample publications include “Estimating Damage Caused by Natural Hazards for the Insurance Industry in Puerto Rico”, published in revista Dimensión in 2005, “Effect of the Interior Masonry Wall on the Seismic Behavior of Concrete Houses – An Experimental Study” presented in 14th Earthquake Engineering World Conference Beijing, China, and  “Análisis No lineal Estático y Dinámico de Pórticos de Hormigón Armado con Deficiencia en el Hormigón de las Columnas” published in Computational Mechanics Journal in Argentina. Dr. López is member of ACI committee 318H-Seismic Design, and is Secretary of the Earthquake Commission of the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
