1. Issue Introduction (Background and Importance)
The rapid advancement of 5G and emerging 6G wireless communication technologies has created a growing demand for high-performance antenna systems capable of supporting massive connectivity, high data rates, low latency, and intelligent wireless services. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas have become a key technology for enhancing spectral efficiency and communication reliability. However, challenges such as mutual coupling, limited isolation, reduced efficiency, and compact integration continue to restrict their practical deployment. Recent developments in metamaterials, metasurfaces, frequency-selective surfaces (FSS), and other artificial electromagnetic structures have provided promising solutions for improving antenna performance and enabling next-generation wireless systems.
2. Aim and Scope of the Special Issue
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers and engineers to present innovative theoretical, numerical, and experimental advances in antenna technologies and electromagnetic structures for 5G/6G communications. The scope covers antenna design, performance enhancement, intelligent electromagnetic structures, and emerging communication and sensing applications.
