Abstract

In this contribution, we give an insight in our experiences in the technical and organizational realization of industrial analytics. We address challenges in implementing industrial analytics in real-world applications and discuss aspects to consider when designing a machine learning solution for production. We focus on technical and organizational aspects to make industrial analytics work for real-world applications in factory automation. As an example, we consider a machine learning use case in the area of industry compressors. We discuss the importance of scalability and reusability of data analytics pipelines and present a container-based system architecture. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book

Abstract

Pipeline morphing is a simple but effective technique for reconfiguring pipelined FPGA designs at run time. By overlapping computation and reconfiguration, the latency associated with emptying and refilling a pipeline can be avoided. We show how morphing can be applied to linear and mesh pipelines at both word-level and bit-level, and explain how this method can be implemented using Xilinx 6200 FPGAs. We also present an approach using morphing to map a large virtual pipeline onto a small physical pipeline, and the trade-offs involved are discussed. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book

Abstract

Recently MPLS is used for building up VPNs in IP backbone, called MPLS VPNs. In this paper, we discuss issues on finding routes with QoS requirements (i.e., QoS routing) in MPLS VPNs. We first present background on MPLS VPNs as well as QoS routing. Then we discuss both the benefits and problems resulted from introducing QoS routing into MPLS VPNs. We particularly present an architecture of MPLS VPNs with QoS routing capability, on which we discuss some important issues on running QoS routing in MPLS VPNs. Abstract

A novel approach to efficiently plan and execute effective transport solutions is presented. It provides agent-based support for key tasks, such as, finding the best sequence of transport services for a particular goods transport, monitoring the execution of the transport, as well as the interaction between the involved actors. The approach is based on the FREIGHTWISE framework in which a minimal set of information packages is defined. The purpose is to capture all the information that needs to be communicated between the actors involved in a transport, such as, transport users, transport providers, and infrastructure managers, during the complete process from planning to termination. The approach is inspired by the concepts of virtual enterprises and breeding environments. We analyse the requirements of such an approach and describe a multi-agent system architecture meeting these requirements. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book
