Abstract

Part 1: Long and Short Papers; International audience; Prior studies have shown benefits of interactions on mobile devices. Device mobility itself changes the nature of the user experience; interactions on mobile devices may present better support for cognition. To better understand cognitive demands related to mobility, the current study investigated presentations on a mobile device for a three-dimensional construction task. The task imposed considerable cognitive load, particularly in demands for mental rotation; individual differences in spatial ability are known to interact with these demands. This study specifically investigated mobile device orientations and participants’ spatial ability. Subjects with low spatial ability were able to complete the task more effectively when shown the presentation in a favorable orientation. Individuals who saw the presentation in an unfavorable orientation and those of low spatial ability, were differentially disadvantaged. We conclude that mobility can reduce cognitive load by limiting demands for spatial processing relating to reorientation. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book

Abstract

The realising of transport requests plays an important role for companies regarding cost. For this reason the construction of an optimal and effective transport planning and scheduling, offering the best use of transport means is hugely important. One of the researched transport problems at present is PDPTW. In this work, the PDPTW problem will be extended by adding changeable and uncertain travel times between given locations, which will then be examined and learnt by the dispatching company system. The changeable travel times are the results of traffic jams forming and propagating. The applied multi-agent approach allows us to consider the problem on the level of a whole company and on the local level analysed by a particular vehicle. The other aspects which are taken into consideration are traffic patterns, whose goal it is to facilitate the optimal routes for the given traffic patterns. These patterns contain the information about the dependencies between the traffic state on the particular routes. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book

Abstract

For lack of the appropriate global distribution of dc currents, the conventional suppression method to suppress dc bias based on capacitive dc blocking device (BD) redirects current to the ground as much as possible, which predisposes to the exceeding neutral current of other transformers in the regional power grid and leads to the contradiction between the power grid corporation and other public enterprises. Therefore, this paper presents a flexible suppression method for dc bias based on a novel dc-bias suppression device. First, a current balancing device (CBD) based on adjustable parallel resistances is designed. The mathematical model for global optimal switching of CBDs is established by a field-circuit coupling method with the equivalent resistance network of an ac system along with the location of substations and ground electrodes. The optimal switching scheme to minimize the global maximum dc current is obtained by gravitational search algorithm. Based on the aforementioned work, we propose a suppression strategy considering electro-corrosion of metal pipelines. The effectiveness and superiority of suppression methods are verified by comparative case studies of the Yichang power grid.
