Abstract

State of the Map featured a full day of academic talks. Building upon the motto of SotM 2019 in "Bridging the Map" the Academic Track session was aimed to provide the bridge to join together the experience, understanding, ideas, concepts and skills from different groups of researchers, academics and scientists from around the world. In particular, the Academic Track session was meant to build this bridge that connects members of the OpenStreetMap community and the academic community by providing an open passage for exchange of ideas, communication and opportunities for increased collaboration. These proceedings include 14 abstracts accepted as oral presentations and 6 abstracts presented as posters. Contributions were received from different academic fields, for example geography, remote sensing, computer and information sciences, geomatics, GIScience, the humanities and social sciences, and even from industry actors. We are particularly delighted to have included abstracts from both experienced researchers and students. Overall, it is our hope that these proceedings accurately showcase the ongoing innovation and maturity of scientific investigations and research into OpenStreetMap, showing how it as a research object converges multiple research areas together. Our aim is to show how the sum total of investigations of issues like Volunteered Geographic Information, geo-information, and geo-digital processes and representation shed light on the relations between crowds, real-world applications, technological developments, and scientific research. Abstract

Holidays are special periods and give rise to many kinds of non-mandatory trips, such as shopping trips and tourist trips. This study investigates the relationship between Integrated Multimodal Travel Information (IMTI) service and holiday travel behavior characteristics in a trip chain. The Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) method is first used to extract the common factors based on the RP-SP fusion data under the pre-trip IMTI and en-route IMTI services, respectively. The Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method is then applied to examine causal effects and quantitative relationships between the influencing factors and trip chain characteristics based on the EFA results. The results show that pre-trip IMTI has a significant negative effect on the holiday travel behavior. The more pre-trip IMTI is obtained by the traveler, the simpler the trip chain spatiotemporal and structural complexity will be. In addition, although the effect of en-route IMTI is less than pre-trip IMTI, it still plays an important role compared to other factors. Therefore, providing IMTI is a new and good alternative to alleviate holiday traffic congestions. Document type: Article

Bike sharing is one of the most promising urban planning interventions to facilitate an all-necessary transition towards a more sustainable transport paradigm. Regardless of the fact that hundreds of schemes run in more than 50 countries worldwide, bike sharing is still moderately investigated by research. This paper reports on a primarily quantitative study of 558 responses that was set to frame attitudes reflecting public acceptance towards the rapidly expanding bike-sharing scheme in Gothenburg (Styr & Ställ), in an attempt to identify the ‘formula for success’. The respondents generally believed that Styr & Ställ is a pro-environmental, inexpensive and healthy transport mode, which complements the city’s public transport services and promotes a more human-friendly identity for Gothenburg.\\ud Even the respondents that self-reported a small (or no) likelihood to use bike sharing were positive towards the scheme. This means that they recognise that bike sharing has a significant pro-social potential and is not a system favouring a particular road-user segment over others that might not be interested or able to use it. Abstract

We propose a metaheuristic for the Time-Dependent Pollution-Routing Problem, which consists of routing a number of vehicles to serve a set of customers and determining their speed on each route segment with the objective of minimizing the cost of driver’s wage and greenhouse gases emissions. The vehicles face traffic congestion which, at peak periods, significantly restricts vehicle speeds and leads to increased emissions. Our algorithm is based on an adaptive large neighborhood search heuristic and uses new removal and insertion operators which significantly improve the quality of the solution. A previously developed departure time and speed optimization procedure is used as a subroutine to optimize departure times and vehicle speeds. Results from extensive computational experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.
