Abstract

The main contribution of this paper is a new online routing algorithm, called Dynamic Online Routing Algorithm (DORA), for dynamic setup of bandwidth guaranteed paths in MPLS networks. The goal of DORA is to accept as many network path setup requests as possible by carefully mapping paths with reserved bandwidth evenly across the network. The key operation behind DORA is to avoid routing over links that: 1) have high potential to be part of any other paths, and 2) have less residual bandwidth available. We compare DORA against other existing constraint-based routing algorithms based on two performance metrics: path setup rejection ratio and percentage of successful reroutes. Abstract

The problem of finding multi-constrained paths has been addressed by several QoS routing algorithms. While they generally satisfy the application requirements, they often do not consider the perspective of service providers. Service providers aim at maximizing the throughput and the number of accepted requests. These goals have been addressed by traffic engineering algorithms considering bandwidth as the sole application requirement. We propose a proper length function for an existing QoS routing algorithm (SAMCRA) that attempts to optimize network utilization while still offering QoS guarantees. This paper presents a comparison between several proposed algorithms via simulation studies. The simulations show that SAMCRA with a proper length performs similarly or even better than the best among the other algorithms and it has a fast running time. Abstract

International audience; This paper presents a method for dynamic load balancing in data networks. When multiple routes are available, it determines their load shares as a function of a composite metric that takes into account the paths? length and load. A general resource preservation mechanism is also presented that complements the proposed random routing strategy when the network is heavily loaded. We compare our approach with trunk reservation in the particular case of fully meshed networks and evaluate its performance in any network, where an equivalent mechanism is missing. We validate our approach by means of simulation and provide insights on the routing solutions that it obtains. Document type: Part of book or chapter of book
