Dr. Husam S. Samkari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and a Researcher in the Artificial Intelligence and Sensing Technologies Research Center at the University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with credentials from the California Board for Professional Engineers (USA) and the Saudi Council of Engineers. He is also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

In addition to his academic role, Dr. Samkari leads EnvoEEx, a consultancy and research firm specializing in power systems, renewable energy, and engineering education.

His research interests include renewable energy, inverter-based resources (IBR), and protection and control schemes for microgrid systems. He has published several papers in international journals and conferences in these areas.

Dr. Samkari earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho, USA, in 2021 and 2016, respectively. He completed his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia in 2010. He also holds a Power Systems Protection and Relay Academic Certificate from the University of Idaho, USA.

His professional background includes work as a Distribution Engineer at the Saudi Electricity Company, as well as roles in the United States as a Graduate Research Intern at Idaho National Laboratory, a Graduate Engineering Intern at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Idaho.

Dr. Samkari’s contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the IEEE Palouse Distinguished Service Award, the 2021 Georgia Tech Clayton Griffin Best Student Paper Award, the 2022 EMTP Research Contribution Prize for Best Paper Award, and the Best Paper Award at the 2025 International Conference on New Energy and Future Energy Systems, Japan.

He has held various leadership positions within IEEE, including serving four years as Vice-Chair of the IEEE Palouse Section and Chair of the IEEE Palouse Young Professionals, and one year as Counselor of the IEEE Student Branch at the University of Tabuk.
