About me

hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Granada, a Master’s degree in Environmental Fluid Dynamics, a specialist qualification in Maritime Transport and Port Management from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and a PhD in Civil Engineering Systems focused on Port Operations. I am also an Associate Professor at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

My professional career has developed across the coastal, port and offshore sectors, with a strong focus on maritime innovation and digital transformation. My work has mainly explored how to understand, assess and manage risk in port environments, especially operational, infrastructural and metocean risk. Today, my research focuses on the definition, simulation, evaluation and management of environmental, operational and infrastructure-related risks, using advanced modelling, data analytics and Artificial Intelligence to support decision-making in complex contexts.

Alongside this main line of work, I have contributed to the physical modelling of maritime operations, probabilistic simulation, data mining, intelligent monitoring systems, climate change impact assessment, damage evolution, sustainability and circular economy indicators for ports.

I have received several recognitions, including awards from entrepreneurship programmes, the World Ports Sustainability Awards in the Climate and Energy category for the Loop-Ports project, and the 2025 Excellent Professor Award from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

My career also includes leadership and management responsibilities. I have coordinated port laboratories at the Universities of Granada and Madrid, led technical teams in the port and coastal engineering sector, directed innovation agreements with Puertos del Estado, and founded the UPM technology-based spin-off Deep Insight S.L. I currently direct the Centre for Leadership and Technology at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, where I support the transformation of people, teams and public-private organisations, helping them strengthen their capacity to adapt to a rapidly changing social, technological and environmental context.
