O surgimento de novas aplicações na Internet, tais como voz sobre IP (VoIP), ensino a distância interativo, realidade virtual, videoconferência, etc, impõe a necessidade de garantias de qualidade de serviço (QoS - Quality of Service) fim-a-fim. Tais aplicações exigem limites no atraso, sua variação (jitter) e nas perdas de pacotes. O modelo de serviço atual da Internet não possibilita a obtenção dos requisitos de QoS mencionados. Assim sendo, o modelo DifIServ quando combinado com a engenharia de tráfego, provida pelo MPLS pode fornecer uma arquitetura apropriada para assegurar garantias de QoS às aplicações. Neste trabalho, considera-se um ambiente de rede, onde os tráfegos multimídia oriundos de um ISP local são classificados na borda da rede backbone em sub-classes de tráfego definidas pelo DiffServ. Em seguida, estes tráfegos são mapeados em diferentes LSPs (Labei Swiched Paths) com diferentes características de vazão, atraso e jitter. Por meio de modelagem e simulação demonstra-se que o MPLS com a Engenharia de Tráfego combinado com o DiffServ garante os limites requeridos pelas aplicações multimídia para os parâmetros de tráfego e de QoS. Currently, the Internet provides only best-effort Service that treats packets equally, and recently new kinds of distributed applications, like Internet telephony, video conferencing, video-on-demand have been developed which are sensitive to the end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) received from the network. Such applications demand limits in the de-lay, jitter and packet loss. The DiffServ model when combined with Traffic Engineering can provide a suitable architecture for ensuring end-to-end QoS guarantees to several kinds of applications. MPLS is emerging to be the choice for the core network applying multi-service networks, and providing Traffic Engineering. In this work, the following environment is considered: in the network edge, the packets are classified in sub-classes of traffic defined by the DiffServ, with different types of delay, jitter and throughput characteristics. In the MPLS backbone, these sub-classes of traffic are mapped in the different Labei Switched Paths (LSPs). This work proposes to show through modelling and simulation, Traffic Engineering over MPLS combined with DiffServ guarantees, the limits required by multimedia applications to the parameters of traffic and QoS.
