This research group has developed a hydrophobic release agent using hydrophobic silica nanoparticles containing hydrophilic functional groups, which form hydrogen bonds with the water present in the fresh concrete and hydrophobic groups (CH3) that are distributed on the surface of the concrete providing hydrophobic properties to the surface. A vegetable oil was used as a support for the development of the release agent, using different types of nanoparticles and modifying the molar ratio between the precursors Methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) and Tetraethylethylsilicate (TEOS).
Each release agent was used for the impregnation of standardized molds in the manufacture of concrete specimens. The hydrophobic properties of the test specimens were studied by measuring the contact angle of the water respect to the .It was observed that the best release agent was manufactured by using a nanosilica having a molar ratio of 2.5, which presents a contact angle higher than 145 º.

 La Figura 3 muestra las fotografías de las diferentes nanopartículas sintetizadas. La primera síntesis mostrada corresponde a nanopartículas de sílice sin modificación superficial. Se observa que está formada por partículas esféricas individuales que tienen un tamaño comprendido entre 400 y 600 nm. Puede observarse que el aumento de la relación molar MTES/TEOS hasta 2 o 2,5, no afecta notablemente a la morfología o el tamaño de las partículas, encontrando nanopartículas en una escala de entre 90 y 600 nm. En cambio, las nanopartículas sintetizadas con una relación molar mayor de MTES/TEOS tienen una estructura amorfa y el material parece estar completamente aglomerado, no observándose partículas individuales.

 Los análisis termogavimétricos (TGA) permitieron conocer la modificación en la superficie de las nanopartículas de acuerdo con la pérdida de peso causada por la evaporación de grupos hidroxilo y alquilo en función de la temperatura.  Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que un incremento de la concentracion de nanopartículas hidrofóbicas en el aceite vegetal aumenta notablemente la hidrofobicidad del desencofrante y mejora la capacidad para permanecer en la superficie del hormigón después de ser desencofrado.
