Tradicionalmente, la mayoría de estas investigaciones se han centrado en examinar el impacto de factores económicos, demográficos y climáticos, y más recientemente, aspectos relacionados con la planificación urbana e incluso con la psicología. Sin embargo, aún son muy escasos los estudios que se han interesado por evaluar en profundidad la influencia que puede ejercer el modelo de gestión de la empresa suministradora en el consumo residencial de agua. En este estudio, enfocado en la región mediterránea de Catalunya para el período 2017-2022, mediante la utilización de datos para el sector doméstico a nivel municipal y siguiendo el método de mediación estadística propuesto por Baron y Kenny, planteamos un toral de tres modelos de regresión lineal múltiple. El objetivo es evaluar cómo el modelo de gestión empresarial puede afectar en el consumo doméstico de agua, así como también la influencia que puede ejercer el precio del agua en esta dinámica analizada. Los resultados de dichas estimaciones nos indican la efectiva influencia de la gestión empresarial, concretamente se concluye que el paso de una gestión indirecta a una directa provoca un aumento en el consumo de agua de los hogares. En contraste, el análisis también revela que el precio del agua no tiene ningún efecto en esta influencia analizada. Traditionally, most of this research has focused on examining the impact of economic, demographic and climatic factors, and more recently, aspects related to urban planning and even psychology. However, there are still very few studies that have been interested in evaluating in depth the influence that the management model of the supplying company may have on residential water consumption. In this study, focused on the Mediterranean region of Catalonia for the period 2017-2022, using data for the domestic sector at the municipal level and following the statistical mediation method proposed by Baron and Kenny, we propose a set of three multiple linear regression models. The objective is to assess how the business management model can affect domestic water consumption, as well as the influence that the price of water can exert on the dynamics analysed. The results of these estimations indicate the effective influence of corporate management, namely it is concluded that the shift from indirect to direct management leads to an increase in household water consumption. In contrast, the analysis also reveals that the price of water has no effect on this analysed influence.
