Se plantea una aproximación al concepto de Health informatics y se revisa el estado, tendencias y principales retos en relación con tres aspectos clave en la evolución del mismo: el empoderamiento del paciente, la equidad en salud, y la ciencia de datos de aplicación sanitaria. Se finaliza con un breve recorrido por el contexto académico y de asociaciones profesionales, tanto a nivel español como internacional.&lt;br /&gt;
