Abstract

In 2010 technology trends became popular that were as diverse and innovative as net neutrality, internet television, video on demand, mobile commerce (due to the increase of the smartphone market), new algorithms that try to compete with Google, content spam, augmented reality, progress on ebooks and transmedia, multitouch interaction, digital out-of-home (dooh) advertising or digital signage, and open data web (open data and linked data) that replaces the semantic web, while the popularization of web 2.0 leads to intensive use of social networks in all areas of digital life, including social commerce.

Abstract

A mass media information management web portal that effectively integrates access to documentation of a thematic channel via iptv was created to disseminate content and generate programmes related to documentation. This is accomplished in a distributed and collaborative fashion, using the web 2.0 or social web parameters. The web portal is an online university platform that supports the creation and diffusion of a wide variety of multimedia and didactic materials as a resource to lecturers, students and professionals. The TV channel is able to transmit live or on demand, carrying content from the newspaper library, image library, video library, or the complete media library using streaming and other technologies. This web portal also benefits from the fact that the multimedia documentation service coordinates access to e-learning tools in the Information Sciences Faculty. E-DocuInfo/TVDoc emerged precisely at the centre of this environment.

Abstract

The introduction of VOD in Spain has been a slow process. The sector has developed over the last few years with international projects like Netflix and HBO and national operators such as Movistar+ and Vodafone One. Also prominent at a national level is Filmin, a project with its origins in the Spanish film industry. In this article we examine the main elements which have enabled VOD to become established in Spain and analyze the case of Filmin as an alternative model based on three variables: a) catalogue and editorial policy; b) business model and lines; c) internationalization strategy. The most significant results deriving from the Filmin case study are: its specialization in independent film and its focus on European audiovisual content; its role as a portal and rights management company; its internationalization strategy initially associated with Media and EuroVoD; and distinguishing features such as simultaneous releases, alliance with and creation of festivals and its commitment to in-house production.
