Abstract

Throughout this work the author carries out a study of the trajectory of Catalan drama from the end of the Civil War to present times. The analysis of problems relating to censorship, the lack of infrastructure, the dialectics of commercial versus alternative theatre, the successive appearances of new theatrical writers and groups, the dominating theatrical norms and the important support provided in recent years by public institutions presents a perfect scan of the issues Catalan drama has faced during the mentioned period.

The article analyses several reading and dramatisation performances of Estellés’ texts, taking into account the dialogue as an ideological construction and the scenographical dimension as an explanation or reinforcement of the author’s unchanging poetics: the reflections about the identity, the body and the objects.

In the Catalan theatrical world —considered only from the Principat angle— a series of factors defined the continuity and the renovation of the genre occurring between 1975 and 1985, through dramatic works already known years before and the success of new writers. The article establishes a balanced view and lists largely the authors and works of the period.
