Abstract

TV News Channels in Peru exists since late nineties. This kind of media appeared as a public necessity because, in that moment, news coverage was coming from TV stations that negotiated its editorial terms with Fujimori and Montesinos. The second TV News Channel in Peru was Canal N (the first -Cable Canal de Noticias- also had negotiated with https Montesinos). This TV station was founded in 1999 and was the only one that presented balanced and impartial approaches to their audience in that time on TV. Since 2010, other channels have emerged, such as Willax TV, ATV+ Noticias, RPP TV and TV Perú 7.3. Recently, Capital TV and Exitosa appeared as an alternative space to present their radio news programmes but in an audiovisual format.

Therefore this editorial diversity invites us to analyse in detail their approaches and contents. In this article, we will review the coverage of Rodolfo Orellana capture and the report about Óscar López Meneses’ irregular police safeguard, a man linked to Vladimiro Montesinos.

Abstract

Two years ago, we participated on Congreso Iberoamericano de Comunicación y Educación celebrates in Huelva, with a paper about an international studies selection what analize the measure of quality on audiovisual contents for kids. That was our first step to make a researching group, focus on Spanish measure model of quality on children tv´s contents. The research proposal receives fundraising amounts from Universidad of Alicante (GRE013-14), during 2003, and now, from the Ministerio de Educación/Feder, specifically on Programa de ayudas a grupos de investigación I+D+I 2004-2007 (SEJ2004-01830). In this time, we present the first design we have made –2003- and its preliminary conclusions. That means only the beginning of an empirical approach to measure quality level on tv´s contents for kids in Spain. Results show us the changes we must do to simplify the measurement tooling by using factorial analysis as well as school interviews to research claimed entertainment. Any way, we can improve the design until 2007, when we have the goal to make a quality certified process to provide more and better information for the involved agents.

Abstract

This paper describes the main contributions of the TV broadcasters in Spain to the study of the relationships be­tween television and childhood. It is justified by the need of compile and organise these contributions. Quality contents broadcasted for children, children consumption of television and the role of TV channels to transfer a positive image of the childhood have been the mainstays of this text. The information that we report is the result of the study carried out from Observatorio Comunicación y Sociedad. Methodologically, consulting scientific bibliography about television and childhood has made possible to put our study into context. After that, the use of questionnaire to people responsible of contents broadcasted for children by the main Spanish TV channels, and the analysis of the different experiences and work papers prepared by televisions, have allowed to create a setting with the broadcasters’ main contributions to a new paradigm which improves the relationship between minors and television. The conclusion from the analysis and the consultation to experts point that, except in the case of the public state television and some regional televisions, the research and the redesign of the childhood/television relationship is not one of the channels priorities. In fact, only TVE has an important scientific production in this field.
