Abstract

Distributing news summaries by means of content syndication significantly improved access to current information, but has had only moderate acceptance despite optimistic predictions. Inadequate attention to best practice by many content producers have limited the usefulness of content syndication. In order for this redistribution method to become a truly beneficial tool, producers must provide good content, create value, and achieve greater empathy with users.

¿Cuándo empezaste a escribir en blog?– En noviembre de 2001 inauguré en mi web una sección llamada sencillamente Blog (http://jamillan. com/blog.htm). Se trataba de una sucesión de notas, con la típica ordenación cronológica inversa. Era generalista: trataba tanto temas de edición digital como cualquier otro que me llamara la atención. Lo que me pareció interesante fue distinguir en una columna las fuentes digitales on line y en otra las de papel y otras off line (luego sustituí las columnas por el uso de Verdana y Times respectivamente). A principios de 2003 independicé el blog sobre edición digital y lo llevé al apartado de la web “Libros y bitios” (http://jamillan.com/ lbblog.htm) y en junio dejé de hacer el blog generalista, porque me quitaba mucho tiempo, pero bien que lo siento: ¡con la de cosas interesantes que hay por ahí!...

Abstract

Podcasts have been offered as a new service by digital music providers for several years now. The shift from Really Simple Syndication (RSS) distribution to central distribution channels has increased the interest in podcasts in low-consumption markets. This study aimed to examine the reasons for the recent increased interest in podcasts in Turkey. To analyze the growth in the popularity of podcasts, a model based on the technology acceptance model and the uses and gratifications theory was used, and a questionnaire targeting the users who listened to podcasts through Spotify, the most popular music streaming service in Turkey, was administered. According to the data obtained, the majority of the participants had first heard about podcasts through Spotify once they announced that they were offering podcasts as part of their services. The perceived ease of use in listening to podcasts served as the major factor behind listening motivations, perceived usefulness of the services, and attitude toward use. Therefore, although the popularization of podcasts in new markets seems to be associated with their unique content, the decisive factor driving the popularization of podcasts is actually more related to the ability podcasts offer users, who are faced with so many stimuli, to access the preferred content anytime and anywhere in a clear and straightforward manner.

Abstract

We present the theoretical and methodological foundations for the development of a multi-agent SDI service model for specialized digital libraries, applying semantic web technologies that permit more efficient information management, improving agent-user communication processes and facilitating accurate access to relevant resources. To do this, rss feeds are used as “current awareness bulletins” to generate personalized bibliographic alerts. The SDI service model has an rss feeds management module and an information push module. In the first module, resources are represented as rss feed items and are also semi-automatically assigned subject terms by matching their associated keywords against the terms of a SKOS Core format thesaurus. In the information push module, bibliographic alerts are customized according to the preferences defined on users’ profiles.
