Abstract

To reduce the emissions from the transport sector, the electric vehicle (EV) is a promising alternative to the internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV). An important aspect of implementing new transport systems in terms of EVs is the charging strategy, as many energy sources with different limitations can be utilized. Although various studies have investigated charging strategies for electric cars, there is a lack of optimized charging strategies for electric boats with specific considerations for these cases. In Colombia, the river transport sector plays an important role in areas with lack of access to other transport alternatives. This study presents an optimization of the charging strategy for an electric boat that is planned to traffic the Magdalena River in the region of Magangué, Colombia. The objective of the optimization model is to minimize the electricity bill while maintaining a desired transport service. The study considers solar photovoltaics (PV), the electric grid and battery storage for charging, and compares different battery sizes in a scenario analysis. Furthermore, the impact of the instability of the grid is included in terms of a sensitivity analysis of grid blackouts, together with varying battery investment costs. The results show that PV is a recommended investment as it lowers the charging cost and gives positive results in terms of economic feasibility. To further increase the economic feasibility, lower the charging costs and improve the reliability of the system, it is suggested to invest in energy storage. The techno-economic feasibility of storage is heavily affected by battery investment costs and number of grid blackouts affecting the boat charging. If the investment cost is low and the number of blackouts is high, a large storage is a suggested solution. För att minska utsläppen från transportsektorn är elfordon (EV) ett lovande alternativ till förbränningsmotorfordon (ICEV). En viktig aspekt vid implementering av nya transportsystem för EV:s är val av laddningsstrategi, eftersom många energikällor med olika begränsningar kan användas. Även om flertalet studier har undersökt laddningsstrategier för elbilar, saknas optimerade laddningsstrategier för elbåtar och som beaktar de specifika förhållandena för dessa fall. I Colombia spelar flodtransportsektorn en viktig roll i områden med brist på tillgång till andra transportalternativ. Denna studie presenterar en optimering av laddningsstrategin för en elbåt som är planerad att trafikera floden Magdalena i regionen Magangué, Colombia. Syftet med optimeringsmodellen är att minimera elräkningen samtidigt som en önskad transporttjänst bibehålls. Studien omfattar solceller (PV), elnätet och batterilagring för laddning, och jämför olika batteristorlekar i en scenarioanalys. Vidare inkluderas effekterna av elnätets instabilitet genom en känslighetsanalys av strömavbrott, tillsammans med varierande kostnader för batteriinvesteringar. Resultaten visar att PV är en rekommenderad investering eftersom den sänker laddningskostnaden och ger positiva resultat när det gäller ekonomisk lönsamhet. För att ytterligare öka den ekonomiska lönsamheten, sänka laddningskostnaderna och förbättra systemets tillförlitlighet föreslås det att investera i energilagring. Den teknisk-ekonomiska genomförbarheten för lagring påverkas starkt av kostnader för batteriinvesteringar och antalet strömavbrott som påverkar båtladdningen. Om investeringskostnaden är låg och antalet strömavbrott är högt är energilagring med stor kapacitet en föreslagen lösning.

Abstract

The Life Cycle Energy Optimisation (LCEO) methodology aims at finding a design solution that uses a minimum amount of cumulative energy demand over the different phases of the vehicle's life cycle, while complying with a set of functional constraints. This effectively balances trade-offs, and therewith avoids sub-optimal shifting between the energy demand for the cradle-to-production of materials, operation of the vehicle, and end-of-life phases. This work further develops the LCEO methodology and expands its scope through three main methodological contributions which, for illustrative purposes, were applied to a vehicle sub-system design case study. An End-Of-Life (EOL) model, based on the substitution with a correction factor method, is included to estimate the energy credits and burdens that originate from EOL vehicle processing. Multiple recycling scenarios with different levels of assumed induced recyclate material property degradation were built, and their impact on the LCEO methodology's outcomes was compared to that of scenarios based on landfilling and incineration with energy recovery. The results show that the inclusion of EOL modelling in the LCEO methodology can alter material use patterns and significantly effect the life cycle energy of the optimal designs. Furthermore, the previous model is expanded to enable holistic vehicle product system design with the LCEO methodology. The constrained optimisation of a vehicle sub-system, and the design of a subset of the processes which are applied to it during its life cycle, are simultaneously optimised for a minimal product system life cycle energy. In particular, a subset of the EOL processes' parameters are considered as continuous design variables with associated barrier functions that control their feasibility. The results show that the LCEO methodology can be used to find an optimal design along with its associated ideal synthetic EOL scenario. Moreover, the ability of the method to identify the underlying mechanisms enabling the optimal solution's trade-offs is further demonstrated. Finally, the functional scope of the methodology is expanded through the inclusion of shape-related variables and aerodynamic drag estimations. Here, vehicle curvature is taken into account in the LCEO methodology through its impact on the aerodynamic drag and therewith its related operational energy demand. In turn, aerodynamic drag is considered through the estimation of the drag coefficient of a vehicle body shape using computational fluid dynamics simulations. The aforementioned coefficient is further used to estimate the energy required by the vehicle to overcome aerodynamic drag. The results demonstrate the ability of the LCEO methodology to capitalise on the underlying functional alignment of the structural and aerodynamic requirements, as well as the need for an allocation strategy for the aerodynamic drag energy within the context of vehicle sub-system redesign. Overall, these methodological developments contributed to the exploration of the ability of the LCEO methodology to handle life cycle and functional trade-offs to achieve life cycle energy optimal vehicle designs. Genom detta kan avvägningar balanseras effektivt, och därmed undviks suboptimala förskjutningar mellan energibehovet för vagga-till-produktion av material, fordonets användningsfas samt hantering av det uttjänta fordonet, på engelska kallad End-Of-Life (EOL). Detta arbete vidareutvecklar LCEO-metodologin och utvidgar dess omfattning genom tre huvudsakliga metodologiska bidrag, som, för illustrativa syften, har applicerats på en fallstudie av ett fordons sub-systemdesign. En EOL-modell baserad på substitution med korrigeringsfaktorer, är inkluderad för att uppskatta energikrediter och bördor som härrör från hanteringen av det uttjänta fordonet. Flera olika scenarier som beskriver återvinning med olika nivåer av antagen degradering av egenskaper hos de återvunna materialen har definierats, och deras respektive LCEO utfall har jämförts med motsvarande resultat för scenarier baserade på deponering och förbränning med energiåtervinning. Resultaten visar att införandet av en EOL-modell i LCEO-metodologin kan ändra flöden och mönster kring materialanvändning och har en signifikant påverkan på den totala livscykelenergin i de optimala fordonsdesignen Då valet av EOL-modell har signifikans för LCEO utfallet, har de föregående, statiska modellerna kompletterats med en utvidgning mot en mer holistisk systemstudie utifrån LCEO. I denna utvidgning studeras frågor kring optimerade produktsystem, framförallt avseende en delmängd av EOL processernas parametrar som har inkluderats i form av kontinuerliga designvariabler med antagna barriärfunktioner som modellerar deras genomförbarhet. Resultaten visar att LCEO kan användas för att finna den optimala designen av en fordonskomponent tillsammans med dess associerade, ideala, syntetiska EOL-scenario. Dessutom demonstreras metodens förmåga att identifiera de underliggande mekanismer som möjliggör den optimala lösningens avvägningar. För att utöka komplexiteten i de ansatta funktionella begränsningarna har även form-relaterade variabler och aerodynamiska motståndsberäkningar tagits med. I det här fallet används krökningen på den studerade fordonskomponenten som ytterligare en variabel i LCEO analyser, med dess inverkan på det aerodynamiska motståndet och i och med detta variationer i användningsfasens energibehov. I detta fallet har det aerodynamiska motståndet tagits med i analysen genom uppskattning av motståndskoefficienten av en fordonskomponent framtagen genom strömningsmekaniska beräkningar. Denna uppskattning används sedan för att modellera den energi som krävs av fordonet för att övervinna det aerodynamiska luftmotståndet. I detta sammanhang visas också på behovet av en strategi för allokering av den aerodynamiska motståndsenergin hos en sub-komponent i relation till helheten, när fokus ligger på design av ett sub-system hos ett fordon. Resultaten visar att LCEO beskriver den underliggande funktionella synergin mellan de ansatta strukturella och de aerodynamiska kraven. Detta arbete bidrar till att LCEO utvecklas i flera olika avseenden som utgör väsentliga steg mot en pro-aktiv metod som kan hantera livscykel- och funktionella avvägningar i en optimal fordonsdesign ur ett livscykelenergiperspektiv.

Abstract

Operators of public transport always try to make their service as attractive as possible, to as many persons as possible and in a so cost effective way as possible. One way to make the service more attractive, especially to elderly and disabled, is to offer door-to-door transportation. The cost for the local authorities to provide this service is very high and increases every year. To better serve the needs of the population and to reduce the cost for transportation of elderly and disabled, public transportation systems are evolving towards more flexible solutions. One such flexible solution is a demand responsive service integrated with a fixed route service, together giving a form of flexible public transport system. The demand responsive service can in such a system be used to carry passengers from their origin to a transfer location to the fixed route network, and/or from the fixed route network to their destination. This thesis concerns the development of a framework for evaluation and design of such an integrated public transport service. The framework includes a geographic information system, optimization tools and simulation tools. This framework describes how these tools can be used in combination to aid the operators in the planning process of an integrated service. The thesis also presents simulations made in order to find guidelines of how an integrated service should be designed. The guidelines are intended to help operators of public transport to implement integrated services and are found by evaluating the effects on availability, travel time, cost and other service indicators for variations in the design and structure of the service. In a planning system for an integrated public transport service, individual journeys must in some way be scheduled. Abstract

Both electric power systems and the transportation sector are essential constituents to modern life, enhancing social welfare, enabling economic prosperity and ultimately providing well-being to the people. However, to mitigate adverse climatological effects of emitting greenhouse gases, a rigorous de-carbonization of both industries has been set on the political agenda in many parts of the world. To this end, electrifying personal vehicles is believed to contribute to an affordable and reliable energy model that provides tolerable environmental impact. Representing an inherently flexible electricity demand, plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) promise to facilitate the integration of variable renewable energy sources. Yet, how should the PEVs' system usage be ideally coordinated for providing benefits to electric power systems in the presence of resource scarcity? The thesis develops a model of an aggregation agent as the interface to the wholesale electricity generators, which is envisaged to be in charge of procuring energy in electricity markets, exposed to uncertainty in prices, fleet availability and demand requirements. This aggregator could coordinate the PEV charging either with direct load control (DLC), i.e., sending power set points to the individual vehicles, or with indirect load control (ILC), i.e., by sending retail price signals. Contributing to the technical literature this thesis has on the one hand proposed a two-stage stochastic linear program for the PEV aggregator's day-ahead and balancing decisions with DLC over a large fleet of PEVs, while accounting for conditional value at risk in the objective function. On the other hand, it has put forward a formulation of ILC coordination as a bi-level optimization problem given by mathematical programming with equilibrium constraints, in which 1) the upper level decisions on retail tariffs and optimal bidding in electricity markets are subject to 2) the lower level client-side optimization of PEV charging schedules. These decisions may respect a potential discomfort that could arise when PEV users have to deviate from their preferred charging schedule. Set in an existing, real medium voltage distribution network with urban characteristics and spatial PEV mobility, network UoS tariffs for capacity have been applied to both DLC and ILC scheduling by a PEV aggregator. Både elkraftsystem och transportsektorn är nödvändiga komponenter av vårt moderna liv – de förstärker den sociala välfärden, möjliggör ekonomisk framgång och bidrar slutligen med välmående för folket. För att undvika skadliga klimateffekter av utsläppta växthusgaser har en rigorös utfasning av fossila bränslen inom båda dessa sektorer prioriterats på politiska agendor runtom i världen. På så vis förväntas elektrifieringen av personbilar bidra till en prisvärd och pålitlig energimodell som ger en acceptabel miljöpåverkan. Med en betydande flexibilitet i efterfrågan på el har elbilarna möjlighet att underlätta integrationen av förnybara energikällor. Frågan är då, hur ska elbilarnas elanvändning koordineras för att bäst bistå elkraftsystemet med hänsyn till resursbrist? Det huvudsakliga syftet med den här forskningen är att föreslå beslutsstödsverktyg som kan förbättra systemeffektiviteten genom elbilsladdning. Forskningen utvecklar en modell för en aggregatoragent som länk till grossistelproducenterna, som antas vara ansvariga för att köpa energi på elmarknaden, under osäkerhet inom priser, tillgång på bilar och efterfrågan. Aggregatorn kan koordinera elbilsladdningen antingen genom direkt efterfrågekontroll, med kraftbegräsningar för enskilda elbilar, eller genom indirekt efterfrågekontroll, men prissignaler. Den här avhandlingen har å ena sidan föreslagit ett tvåstegs stokastiskt linjärt program för elbilsaggregatorns spotmarknads- och balansbeslut med direkt efterfrågekontroll för en stor elbilsflotta, genom att ta hänsyn till conditional value at risk i målfunktionen. Å andra sidan har den tagit fram en formulering för koordinering av indirekt efterfrågekontroll som ett bileveloptimeringsproblem med jämviktsrestriktioner, där 1) de övre besluten om slutkundspriser och optimal budgivning i elmarknaderna med förbehåll för 2) den lägre optimeringen av kundoptimeringen av laddningsscheman. Dessa beslut kan åsamka möjligt obehag för elbilsanvändarna då de behöver avvika från sina föredragna laddningsscheman. Kapacitetsnätverkstariffer har tillämpats både för direkt och indirekt laddningskontroll för en elbilsaggregator, i ett existerande distributionsnätverk med urbana egenskaper och spatiala laddningsscheman för elbilar. ¿Cómo sería nuestra sociedad moderna, si no existiese el acceso generalizado a la electricidad y cómo viviríamos sin transporte motorizado? Parece muy difícil imaginar nuestras sociedades contemporáneas en países desarrollados sin los sistemas eléctricos como la columna vertebral para incrementar el beneficio social, el desarrollo económico y ultimadamente el bienestar humano. No hay duda que el sector transporte es un constituyente esencial para la vida moderna. Sin embargo, para mitigar los efectos adversos de los gases de efecto invernadero, una rigorosa descarbonización del sector eléctrico y transporte ha sido establecida en la agenda política de muchas partes del mundo. En este sentido, se espera que los vehículos contribuyan a lograr un modelo energético accesible y fiable con un impacto ambiental tolerable. Pero todavía existe una duda: ¿Exactamente cuánto deberían coordinarse los vehículos eléctricos, de tal manera que puedan proveer beneficios al sistema eléctrico en la presencia de escasez de recursos? El principal objetivo de esta investigación es proponer herramientas de soporte que puedan mejorar la eficiencia de todo el sistema a través de la carga de vehículos eléctricos. Un agente agregador podría ser el interfaz con el mercado mayorista de electricidad en la cual el agregador está encargado de comprar energía en los mercados eléctricos exponiéndolo a la incertidumbre de precios, la disponibilidad de la flota de vehículos y los requerimientos de demanda. Este agregador podría coordinar la carga de vehículos eléctricos con control directo de carga (CDC), esto es enviando consignas a los vehículos individuales, o con control indirecto de cargas (CIC), enviando señales de precios minoristas. Esta tesis contribuye con la literatura técnica en dos maneras, por un lado propone una programación lineal en dos etapas con CDC para el agregador de vehículos eléctricos que toma decisiones de oferta en el mercado diario y desvíos de energía para una flota grande de vehículos eléctricos, mientras se tiene en cuenta el valor en riesgo condicional. Por otro lado, se propone una formulación de coordinación con CIC como un problema de optimización binivel dado por una programación matemática con restricciones de equilibrio, donde 1) las decisiones del nivel superior son el diseño de las tarifas minoristas y las ofertas óptimas en los mercados, que dependen de 2) las decisiones de optimización de tiempo de carga de los vehículos eléctricos por parte de los clientes, que se da en un nivel inferior. Las tarifas de red han sido aplicadas a ambos CDC y CIC, estas tarifas están basadas en una red de distribución de media tensión con características urbanas y con movilidad de vehículos eléctricos. Zowel het elektrische energiesysteem als het transportsysteem leveren een essentiële bij-drage aan de hedendaagse samenleving: het verhogen de maatschappelijke welvaart, het toelaten van economische vooruitgang, en het verbeteren van het menselijke welzijn. Echter, om de nadelige effecten van broeikasgassen te beperken, is een verregaande decarbonisatie van beide sectoren een belangrijk politiek agendapunt geworden in verschillende delen van de wereld. De elektrificatie van personenwagens wordt geacht bij te dragen aan een betaalbaar en betrouwbaar energiemodel dat een aanvaardbare milieu impact heeft. De inherente flex-ibiliteit in de energievraag van plug-in elektrische voertuigen (PEV’s) is beloftevol voor de facilitering van de integratie van hernieuwbare energiebronnen. De vraag is: hoe kan het opladen van PEV’s het best gecoördineerd worden om voordelig te zijn voor het elektrische energiesysteem op momenten van productieschaarste? Het belangrijkste doel van dit onderzoek is om beleidsondersteunende hulpmiddelen aan te bieden, om het totale systeemrendement te verbeteren door middel van het gecoördineerd opladen van PEV’s. Het proefschrift ontwikkelt een model van een aggregatie-agent die als interface fungeert naar de groothandelsmarkt van elektriciteitsproducenten. De aggregator is verantwoordelijk voor de aankoop van de energie op deze elektriciteitsmarkten, en is bij-gevolg blootgesteld aan prijsvolatiliteiten, de beschikbaarheid van de voertuigvloot, en de vereiste energievraag. Deze aggregator kan het opladen van de PEV‘s coördineren via directe lastregeling (Direct Load Control, DLC), het verzenden van de vermogenssetpoints naar de individuele voertuigen, of via indirecte lastregeling (Indirect Load Control, ILC), het sturen van prijssignalen. De bijdrage van dit proefschrift aan de technische vakliteratuur is tweeledig. Ener-zijds wordt er een tweetraps stochastische lineaire programmatiemethode voorgesteld voor de beslissingen van de PEV aggregator op de day-ahead markt en de balanceringsmarkt, waarbij rekening gehouden wordt met het voorwaardelijke risicogehalte van de doelfunctie. Ander-zijds wordt er een formulering van de ILC-coördinatie voorgesteld, als een bi-level optimalisatie probleem dat gebaseerd is op de wiskundige programmeringsmethode met evenwichtsbeperkin-gen. Hierbij zijn er 1) de high-level beslissingen omtrent de retailtarieven en de optimale biedstrategie in de elektriciteitsmarkten, en 2) de low-level optimalisatie van de individuele PEV oplaadschema’s. Deze beslissingen kunnen een mogelijk ongemak creëren door de af-wijking van het optimale laadschema voor de PEV-gebruiker. Voor een realistisch en bestaand stedelijk middenspanning distributienetwerk en ruimtelijk PEV mobiliteitsgedrag, zijn UoS capaciteitstarieven toegepast door een PEV-aggregator, zowel voor DLC- als ILC-gebaseerde laadcoördinatie.
