Abstract

There is a wide variety of materials with various properties available for designers to meet different design requirements. The objective of this study was to evaluate the properties of the relevant materials available in Ecuador through the multicriteria meth-od such as: Proportional complex evaluation (COP-RAS), Technique for the order of preference for similarity to real solution (TOPSIS), Optimization multi-disciplinary and compromise solution (VIKOR), in order to indicate which material would be a potential substitute for the original. It was concluded that 1045 steel is the best choice as a substitute for a safety compartment compared the base line the Aluminum-Magnesium alloy, considering that, despite being a light material, has low resistance to impact forces.

Abstract

The article presents the application of the MCDM methods, belonging to the PROMETHEE family, for the evaluation of potential solutions of the road system (RS) in the selected area located in Gniezno, historical capital of Poland. The proposed set of heuristics variants of RS were assessed by a coherent family of criteria taking into account different groups of stakeholders. The decision problem was defined as an issue of prioritising a finite number of variants of road-rail system reconstruction. The proposed model of decision-maker’s preferences was developed based on the results of surveys conducted during public consultations with the residents of the area. The originality of the study consists in that the model became the basis for the final variants ranking that was subsequently compared with the results obtained using another MCDM method – ELECTRE III, where the decision-maker's preference model was developed on the basis of information obtained from independent experts.

Abstract

Fuzzy Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluation (F-PROMETHEE) was applied for choosing among potential logistics center locations. The method combines the concept of fuzzy sets to represent uncertain information with the PROMETHEE, a subgroup of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods. Criteria are identified based on review of scientific and trade literature and inputs received from experts. The suitability of areas have been evaluated on the basis of these criteria. There are substantial uncertainties and subjectivity about site information. Therefore F-PROMETHEE method is preferred. The case study shows that this application provides reasonable results. Abstract

n increasing number of recent discussions have focused on the need for designing transport systems in consonance with the importance of the environment, thus promoting investment in the growth of non-motorized transport infrastructure. Under such conditions, the demand for implementing the most effective infrastructure measures has a profoundly positive impact, and requires the least possible financial and human resources. The development of the concept of sustainable mobility puts emphasis on the integrated planning of transport systems, and pays major attention to the expansion of non-motorized and public transport, and different sharing systems, as well as to effective traffic management involving intelligent transport systems. The development of transport infrastructure requires massive investment, and hence the proper use of mobility measures is one of the most important objectives for the rational planning of sustainable transport systems. To achieve this established goal, this article examines a compiled set of mobility measures and identifies the significance of the preferred tools, which involve sustainable mobility experts. The paper also applies multicriteria decision making methods in assessing urban transport systems and their potential in terms of sustainable mobility. Multicriteria decision making methods have been successfully used for assessing the effectiveness of sustainable transport systems, and for comparing them between cities. The proposed universal evaluation model is applied to similar types of cities. The article explores the adaptability of the model by assessing big Lithuanian cities.
