Abstract

Interoperability in logistics is a prerequisite for realizing data pipelines and the Physical Internet. Forecasting data, real time data, and actual positions of shipments, containers, and transport means shared via events have to be harmonized and are expected to improve all types of processes, support synchromodal planning, and improve risk analysis from a compliance and resilience perspective. Technically, several solutions are implemented by organizations and innovations have been validated in so-called Living Labs or demonstrators in various projects. These solutions do not yet provide open systems required for a (global) data pipeline. A federation of solutions is required to construct data pipelines and to support sustainable development of applications on smart devices allowing Small and Medium sized Enterprises to collaborate. This paper proposes a set of platform services and so-called platform protocols to allow interoperability of different platforms for constructing a data pipeline. The proposed services and protocols further extend existing interoperability solutions and services for supply and logistics. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2015. Abstract

The research team is currently working on defining a suitable path towards the design and implementation of a Living Lab for developing, testing and demonstrating innovations in sustainable transport operations. There are several examples that focus on transport and mobility, either addressing individual or freight transport. The combination of both topics is seen as a unique chance to find new ways for a sustainable transport system and mobility behavior. The region of Upper Austria is used as a research case in order to demonstrate results and findings of an applied research project, called “Mobility Lab Upper Austria.” Document type: Article

Abstract

Transport systems in Central Europe often show a lack of integration between different transport networks and modes. Linking the Trans-European Network to the regional passenger transport system is a challenge, linking both to flexible mobility services such as sharing services, on demand transport etc. on a local level, is an even bigger one. However, the potential of a successful integration with regard to improved service quality, increased accessibility and sustainability is high. The paper will outline the basic concept of Living Labs and its usability for the improvement of local, regional and transnational transport systems. The Living Lab approach will help take into account the mobility needs of different user groups when developing new services or adapting existing ones and will support these services to become more competitive and financially viable. In the Interreg-project SHAREPLACE six Living Lab sites in Austria, Croatia, Germany, Italy and Hungary will be implemented.

Abstract

Numerous studies have already demonstrated the benefits and social relevance of electric vehicles. But why EVs are not yet visible in our streets? To provide an answer to this question the Flemish government has set up five living labs for the deployment of electric vehicles in 2011. Several studies presented in literature are focused on the consumer and his/her perception, but rarely take into account whether the consumer actually drove an EV. Therefor the iMove- and EVA-platform, as part of The Living Labs, form the ideal environment to investigate the perception of test users. Test drivers were asked to fill-in a same questionnaire before and after the test. Questions included inter alia judging the possible advantages and disadvantages, purchase potential. Many people were interested to test an electric car, although there basic knowledge about EVs was poor. Consumers confirm that the lower cost per kilometer is an important advantage, although it became less crucial after testing. Charging at home is perceived as an important advantage. The limited electric range still remains the main disadvantage, followed by the high purchase price. Consumers clearly underestimated the effect of a limited range. The willingness to purchase an EV within the future is related to the consumer’s idea of when an EV will be a full alternative. The majority consider buying an electric car in the near future (within 4 years). Related to this, one-third of the test population is willing to pay more for an electric car. Document type: Article
