Abstract

This research aims to analyze the level of use of technology by university teachers. We are interested by the frequency of their use in designing the teaching-learning process. The research questions were: what types of learning activities which include are designed by university teachers? What types of technologies do teachers use in the design of their instruction? What is the level of use of digital technologies in the learning designs? To respond to these issues, we designed an inventory of activities of learning technologies at the university which was completed by 941 Andalusian teachers. We have identified the type and frequency of use of technology by university lecturers in their different fields at the same time as studying learning activities that predominate in their learning designs. The results, first of all, reveal a poor integration of ICT in the teaching-learning processes which are, essentially, the teacher-centered learning activities. Secondly, we have identified four profiles which differentiate between d teachers depending on their level of use of ICT. The profile comprising an increased number of teachers makes making reference to the rare use of technology. There are teachers who use technology sparingly, and this is a very small range.

Abstract

Many important filmmakers have perfected their cinematographic technique by filming advertisements. For this reason, it is not surprising that advertising materials are often included when filmmakers donate their work to a film archive. However, these materials are not always properly catalogued and their dissemination and use is quite limited. This paper describes the quantity and variety of advertising documents preserved in the Spanish film archives, emphasizes their importance as primary information sources for understanding the history of advertising in particular and of cinematography in general, and explains some of the difficulties and challenges of analysing them as documents. The challenge of documentary control of these materials lies not only in the amount of work, but 1) the lack of a methodology that encompasses all documentary procedures and 2) the lack of qualified personnel.

Abstract

global emission inventory of carbon monoxide (CO) emissions with 1° × 1° latitude-longitude resolution was compiled for 1990 on a sectoral basis. The sectoral sources considered include large-scale biomass burning (29%, of which savanna burning, 18%, and deforestation, 11%), fossil fuel combustion (27%, predominantly in road transport), biofuel combustion (19%, predominantly fuelwood combustion), agricultural waste burning (21%) and industrial process sources (4%). The inventory was compiled using mostly national statistics as activity data, emission factors at global or country level, and specific grid maps to convert, by sector, country total emissions to the 1° × 1° grid. A special effort was made to compile a global inventory of biofuel use, since this was considered to be a significant source on a global level, and a major source in some regions such as India and China. The global anthropogenic source of CO in 1990 is estimated at about 974 Tg CO yr-1. The inventory is available on a sectoral basis on a 1° × 1° grid for input to global atmospheric models and on a regional/country basis for policy analysis. © 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. Abstract

The aim of this communication is to analyze the architectural, historic and construction values of the Costa Rican Caribbean architecture, which constitutes an architectural typology of the identity of the city of Limón. Damages linked to biological agents in these buildings were identified based on the multidisciplinary research project titled “Conservation of the Costa Rican Caribbean architecture by applying advanced techniques for studying the causative agents of damage in the buildings”. An inventory of the study area was conducted in order to identify predominant elements of this type of architecture, as well as to quantify and georeference, through a Geographic Information System, the buildings that are still preserved; the identification of damage-causing agents within the inventory was also part of the process. As a second stage, samples taken from the buildings will be analyzed in the biological sciences laboratory to identify biological agents that were potentially responsible for damage. Thirty representative buildings of the Costa Rican Caribbean architecture were identified, for which inventory records were made that included information about architectural and building aspects, as well as damage identification and classification, and types of causative agents. Based on a multi-criteria evaluation, Capitanía de Puerto, Casa Misionera de la Iglesia Bautista and other edifications were selected as the buildings to conduct the inventory of biological damage, sampling, and environmental monitoring.
