Abstract

In this work a conceptual theory of neural networks (NNs) from the perspective of functional analysis and variational calculus is presented. Within this formulation, the learning problem for the multilayer perceptron lies in terms of finding a function, which is an extremal for some functional. Therefore, a variational formulation for NNs provides a direct method for the solution of variational problems.

This proposed method is then applied to distinct types of engineering problems. In particular a shape design, an optimal control and an inverse problem are considered. The selected examples can be solved analytically, which enables a fair comparison with the NN results. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract

The present article analyzes the scenic and dramatic functions of the Sun-King myth. A number of uses of the myth within texts of praise of the Habsburg monarchy are employed to extrapolate possible uses within court theatre. The article uses the Aristotelian analytic differentiation between ergon and parergon and exemplifies it in the loa at the beginning of Calderón’s Fieras afemina amor. This loa makes use of the Sun-King myth to perform the theatrical praise of Mariana de Austria on the stage, at court and within the entire cosmos.

Abstract

The implementation of electronic government in Spain, specifically in local councils, is described. We tackle an array of questions about how this process is being carried out. We analyse whether recommendations given to the public sector by European and national rules and regulations are leaving behind several well-defined stages which should be previously solved. We are referring to the organic-functional aspects before looking for technical solutions and technical paths towards implementing metadata.
