Abstract

Academias morales de las musas (1642) by Antonio Enríquez Gómez is one of those miscellaneous works that make use of academia’s narrative artifice in order to compile poems, plays and other loose works. They are articulated upon the concurrence of several interlocutors who expound their ideas and feelings through compositions with different degrees of elaboration. In those verses, Antonio Enríquez Gómez pours his concerns about a life shaken by the persecution he suffered at the hands of the Inquisition because of his crypto-Judaism. Although he covers diverse themes, he is mainly concerned with providing moral reflections, and with the pessimist recreation of neo-stoic topics.

Abstract

This paper offers a reading of the Morisco character Ricote (Quijote, II, 54) from the perspective of the experience of emigration and exile of a Spaniard outside of Spain. The paper offers also a reflection on the related issues of Ricote’s identity as a «Spaniard», as well as that of the spaces created by Cervantes within the novel to present, with a certain degree of freedom, both a moving portrait of the character, and a defense of his expulsion from Spain.

Abstract: In the 1939 exile, translation played a somewhat subsidiary role. Original works were the priority, because saving words had become urgent. “Professional” translators had to use other languages, especially Spanish, while “vocational” translators translated into Catalan for themselves, for the future. The press in exile could only access a few token literary translations or anonymous translations of informational documents. Abstract

Documentary collections held by the communications media have become a source of essential information for research. Scholars of contemporary history have found in them both the official information and the opinion of government opponents that allows them to compare, refine and supplement their research. Some collections exist in media formats that are now difficult to reproduce, as in this project at the University of Alicante . Radio broadcasts preserved on open-reel tapes require technology that has already disappeared, and the reproduction of the original source involves progressive destruction. Therefore, digitization of this content and a technical approach that will allow open access constitute a high-value initiative for researchers.
