Abstract

International audience; In this paper, a distribution vehicle, which can be equipped with many actuators as wheel electric motors and steering wheels and which is supported to follow a given trajectory, is chosen as an application for determining the optimal vehicle configuration and expected energy gains. The different vehicle configurations are formed by the amount and the position of these actuators, defining 16 different architectures. From the total efforts at the gravity center of the vehicle, the control allocation of the nonlinear system under nonlinear constraints is used to determine the torque of the actuated wheels and the angle of steered wheels. The same objective function is used for actuation allocation while different constraints assumed for describing each vehicle architecture. Energy losses in the tire-road contact zone, necessary power for steering system, kinetic energy of the vehicle during the maneuver and the consumption energy are estimated for comparison purposes in the case of lane changing. Along with that, the performance of the vehicle's steering system was also assessed in the case of a different torque of the electric motors.

Abstract

International audience; This paper presents a study which follows the present trend in the field of electric (or hybrid) vehicles E(H)V, having in mind that the major drawback of these last ones is the autonomy problem. Thus, by using a hybrid energy source (formed by ultracapacitors and battery) and with a proper current control (of polynomial type) one can get a good energy management which will increase the lifetime of the battery. Through numerical simulations and tests at reduced scale, the authors present a successfully energy management on board of a hybrid vehicle.

Abstract

Revenues from global sales of light electric vehicles are expected to grow from $ 9.3 billion in 2017 to $ 23.9 billion in 2025. In order to boost this growth electric drives with better features and lower costs have to be developed. This paper presents a new in-wheel axial-flux switched reluctance motor with double rotor and a particular disposition of the stator and rotor poles that provides short flux path without flux reversal. The magnetic active parts of the stator and the rotor are built using soft magnetic composites. The motor is fed from batteries trough a on purpose designed electronic power controller. Simulation of the whole drive, using Matlab-Simulink coupled with the results of the three dimensional finite analysis of the motor is carried out. Simulation results prove that the proposed in-wheel axial-flux switched reluctance motor drive is adequate for the propulsion of electric light vehicles.

International audience; Nowadays, in automotive applications, theelectric vehicle motors generally utilize permanent magnetmotors due to their various advantages like high torque density,high efficiency, compactness and ease of control. In this paperemphasis is given to the evaluation of energy cost index for anEV motor over a particular drive cycle during motorsoperational lifetime. Performance evaluation over the entiredrive cycle, instead of at rated conditions, provides a better ideaof the efficiency and energy consumption of an electric motor.Therefore, energy cost evaluation for the urban part of NewEuropean Driving Cycle i.e. ECE-15 is selected in this study andthe energy cost index is evaluated for an EV motor for virginand recycled magnets utilized in the machine. Abstract

Several factors including fossil fuels scarcity, prices volatility, greenhouse gas emissions or current pollution levels in metropolitan areas are forcing the development of greener transportation systems based on more efficient electric and hybrid vehicles. Most of the current hybrid electric vehicles use electric motors containing powerful rare-earth permanent magnets. However, both private companies and estates are aware of possible future shortages, price uncertainty and geographical concentration of some critical rare-earth elements needed to manufacture such magnets. Therefore, there is a growing interest in developing electric motors for vehicular propulsion systems without rare-earth permanent magnets. In this paper this problematic is addressed and the state-of-the-art of the electric motor technologies for vehicular propulsion systems is reviewed, where the features required, design considerations and restrictions are addressed. One of the main problems in electric vehicles is the volume of their electrical systems because their bulky components carry additional mass and high cost to the total system. On this topic, interleaving-phases and magnetic coupling techniques have been reported as effective methods for increasing the power density of the DC-DC converters that work between the storage unit and the motor inverter. In that sense, a volume assessment of these topologies would provide a better understanding of the problems to be faced when an electric power train is designed. In this paper, a volume modelling methodology is introduced with the purpose of comparing four different DC-DC converters: Single-Phase Boost, Two-Phase Interleaved with non-coupled inductors, Loosely Coupled Inductor (LCI), and Integrated Winding Coupled Inductor (IWCI). The analysis considers the volume of magnetic components, power devices (conventional and next-generation), cooling devices and capacitors. The methodology can be used as a part of an optimization procedure to minimize the volume of DC-DC converters. Conclusively, LCI and IWCI were found effective to miniaturize power converters with a power density of 8.4 W/cc and 9.66 W/cc, respectively. Moreover, a maximum efficiency of 98.04% and 97.61% was obtained for a 1kW LCI and IWCI prototypes, respectively. ispartof: IET POWER ELECTRONICS vol:10 issue:14 pages:2010-2020 status: published
