Abstract

The advent of the internet, the impact of digital photography and the ability to scan large volumes of images has revolutionized the stock photography agencies. The transformation from analogue to digital photography has involved a substantial change in daily work processes, providing a large number of images online. The present work will reveal the profile and the basic features that any stock photography agency must offer on issues such as image retrieval, on-screen visualization, and storage for many diverse editorial activities.

Abstract

A study of the impact and influence of Digital Photography on the Press Documentation Departments. The photographic archives of the Documentation Departments of the Spanish daily newspapers Abc, El mundo, El país, La razón, La vanguardia and of the EFE news agency are used as reference. The following aspects are analysed: the increase in the number of images, changes in their handling and cataloging, the supply and the demand, profitability and problems. The information has been obtained from the heads of the respective departments based on a questionnaire especially drawn up for this purpose.

Abstract

The possibilities of image based modeling (IBM) as a 3D scanning technique for modeling low cost Roman inscriptions are analyzed. The study has been carried out at the National Museum of Archaeology (Madrid), where various Roman inscriptions (on stone, bronze and clay) were examined. The results obtained have proved to be excellent as related to the study and widespreading of this type of historical documentation. The 3D Roman inscriptions can be incorporated into digital epigraphy projects in progress, allowing access via personal computers and mobile devices, without extra costs to researchers.

Abstract

Digital images are all around and their number increases every day. However, this growing volume contrasts with a poor description in the vast majority of cases. The value of a picture to illustrate the original event, or to be used in other contexts or situations, is based on an appropriate description. The purpose of this paper is to reduce the difficulties encountered in describing images by categorizing them and the agencies, specifying uses, and exemplifying descriptive differences. The implementation of these recommendations improves the quality of records, helps in successful retrieval, and increases positive evaluations of web sites by clients and users.
