Abstract

Influenza A virus (IAV) is economically important in pig production and has broad public health implications. In Europe, active IAV surveillance includes demonstration of antigen in nasal swabs and/or demonstration of antibodies in serum (SER) samples; however, collecting appropriate numbers of individual pig samples can be costly and labour-intensive. The objective of this study was to compare the probability of detecting IAV antibody positive populations using SER versus oral fluid (OF) samples. Paired pen samples, one OF and 5–14 SER samples, were collected cross-sectional or longitudinally. A commercial nucleoprotein (NP)-based blocking ELISA was used to test 244 OF and 1004 SER samples from 123 pens each containing 20–540 pigs located in 27 UK herds. Overall, the IAV antibody detection rate was higher in SER samples compared to OFs under the study conditions. Pig age had a significant effect on the probability of detecting positive pens. For 3–9-week-old pigs the probability of detecting IAV antibody positive samples in a pen with 95% confidence intervals was 40% (23–60) for OF and 61% (0.37–0.80) for SER (P = 0.04), for 10–14-week-old pigs it was 19% (8–40) for OF and 93% (0.71–0.99) for SER (P < 0.01), and for 18–20-week-old pigs it was 67% (41–85) for OF and 81% (0.63–0.91) for SER (P = 0.05). Collecting more than one OF sample in pens with more than 25 less than 18-week-old pigs should be further investigated in the future to elucidate the suitability of OF for IAV surveillance in herds with large pen sizes.

Abstract

This paper presents a method of noise-acoustic non-destructive control during carrying out of diagnostics of bearings of mats rolling in car wheels. The proposed non-destructive method of control provides an opportunity to check the efficiency of the selected lubricant, thereby increasing the life and performance of the bearings. A laboratory installation for the diagnosis of roller bearings has been created, which allows to obtain their acoustic parameters depending on the load of the bearing unit, the time of application, and application of different types of lubricants in bearings. The theoretical and practical contribution of this proposition is that the mathematical model developed by the authors is aimed at determining the degree of wear of bearing shafts, which allows to predict their possible work life based on the received noise-acoustic parameters.

W referacie przedstawiono wyniki badań, których celem było opracowanie metody diagnozowania okrętowych szybkoobrotowych silników tłokowych. Polska Marynarka Wojenna eksploatuje znaczną liczbę silników tego typu również na okrętach podwodnych. Silniki tego typu nie posiadają zaworów indykatorowych, co komplikuje możliwość oceny procesu spalania i ich stanu technicznego. Akademia Marynarki Wojennej w Gdyni od lat prowadzi badania związane z rozwojem metod diagnozowania okrętowych tłokowych silników spalinowych. W ostatnich latach prowadzone są prace nad metodami diagnozowania szybkoobrotowych silników okrętowych bazującymi na analizie obwiedni przyspieszeń drgań generowanych przez układy rozrządu zaworowego i układ paliwowy. W referacie zaprezentowano wybrane wyniki badań prowadzonych na silnikach Mercedes-Maybach typu MB820 stosowanych na okrętach podwodnych klasy Kobben. Document type: Article

Abstract

Pipelines are structural elements of many systems. For example, they are used in water supply and heat supply systems, in chemical production facilities, aircraft manufacturing, and in the oil and gas industry. Accidents in piping systems result in significant economic damage. An important factor for ensuring the reliability of energy transportation systems is the assessment of real technical conditions of pipelines. Methods for assessing the state of pipeline systems by their vibro-acoustic parameters are widely used today. Traditionally, the Fourier transform is used to process vibration signals. However, as a rule, the oscillations of the pipe-liquid system are non-linear and non-stationary. This reduces the reliability of devices based on the implementation of classical methods of analysis. The authors used neural network methods for the analysis of vibro-signals, which made it possible to increase the reliability of diagnosing pipeline systems. The present work considers a method of neural network analysis of amplitude-frequency measurements in pipelines to identify the presence of a defect and further clarify its variety.
