Abstract

The ATHENIS-3D FP7 EU project aims at providing new enabling technologies (analog, digital and power components) for high-voltage and high-temperature applications, tested for power systems of new hybrid/electrical vehicles. Innovation is exploited at process/device level (3D chip stacking, wafer level packaging, trench capacitors and TSV-inductors integrated in the interposer, high-reliable non-volatile Magnetic RAM), circuit-level (inductorless high-voltage DC-DC converter, high-temperature 28nm System-on-Chip platform) and system-level (compact 3D embedded power mechatronic system). Enabling high integration levels of complex systems, operating in harsh environments, in a single packaged 3D device, ATHENIS-3D allows for one order of magnitude area reduction vs. today PCB-based power and control systems. Integration costs will be consequently reduced in key industrial sectors for Europe where high-voltage/temperature operations are mandatory (vehicles, avionics, space/defense, industrial automation, energy). © 2016 EDAA.

Abstract

International audience; This paper describes an energy management strategy for an electric vehicle (EV). The proposed EV architecture contains a pack of the batteries which presents the energy source and a pack of the supercapacitors (SC) used as power source. The pack of the batteries produces the necessary energy to move forward the vehicle while the pack of the SC produces the lacking power in acceleration and in braking phases. Two DC-DC converters are used to interface the energy sources with the DC-bus. A bidirectional DC-AC converter is used to connect the traction motor to the DC-bus. The proposed control method is focused on the power flow management within the EV depending on electrical behavior of the energy sources. The validity of the proposed control strategy is proofed through some reduced scale simulations tests using the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

Abstract

This paper presents the design of a low input (24 V) and variable high output voltage (0–2.5 kV) bidirectional dc-dc converter for driving a capacitive actuator. The topology is a digitally controlled bidirectional flyback converter with a variable frequency control. The objective is, to design the converter for efficiently charging and discharging the capacitive actuator from 0 V to 2.5 kV and vice versa, respectively. The converter is used to drive a dielectric electro active polymer (DEAP) based capacitive incremental actuator, which has the potential to be used in automotive (e.g., EVs), space and medical industries. The design of the bidirectional flyback converter to charge and discharge a 400 nF capacitive actuator is presented, when 4 kV and 4.5 kV high voltage MOSFETs are used on the secondary high voltage side. The experimental results and efficiency measurements of the converter with the proposed design are provided.
